Van next to me triggered camera, I got a ticket
Discussion
I expect a lot of people to say they don't believe this, but I don't really either, so that's fine.
On the A1, two lanes, 70mph bit. I passed a van in the outside lane, barely going faster than it. A bit further up the road there was a speed camera, I dropped from maybe 75 to 70. The van I'd just passed, which for some reason sped up, sailed up the inside of me at about 80mph, we were on the markings at the same time.
Three days later, I have a NIP for 80 in a 70. I've been through the camera a hundred times, there's no way I'd be so stupid. It's been there forever.
Whole thing seems ridiculous but there's no way they'll believe me is there?

I presume it was a fixed camera given you know the location, have you got a copy of the picture?
If so does it include the speed calibration lines in shot?
If so you should be able to calculate the speed +/- or if not sensitise it for info and post it up here and others should be able to help

The road markings will prove one hundred % if you were speeding or not.
Do they come with the NIP?
If not can you request them?
Simple equation (for others not me) using the info from the two photos will prove one way or other if you were in fact speeding or not.
I think?
I need to type faster!

An incident is mentioned in the article below where a vehicle was stationary and got sent a NIP, but a bike set off the camera.

This situation happened to a former colleague. Was undertaken at speed and he got the nip.
He just wrote in and said he believes that he was undertaken and another driver was speeding, could he see the pics. They sent the pics and he did their job for them.
If they're refusing to send you the pictures you just have to go through the procedure.
Reply to NIP saying you were driving at the time but believe another vehicle set off the camera.
Reply to ticket that you were not speeding and you believe a second vehicle set off the camera.
Go to court if they decide to take it that far.
Ask for costs as you've done all you can to avoid the admin error.

They won't give me a picture unless I take the court option.
I got a link from GMP with access to pics of my alleged infraction in the first letter.Boosted LS1 said:
I would have thought the road sensors would be able to identify which lane the speeding vehicle was in. OP, do you know what type of camera it is? Are there sensors in the tarmac?
Please educate me as to what road sensors are present for detecting speeding on a dual or triple carriageway?OP I would as others have said write and say that you believe the van undertaking you was the one speeding, got to be worth doing that at least, hasn't it?
