AXE ATTACK on Speed Camera Operator and van!
Discussion
Just caught the end of this on the radio, a Speed SCUMera operator and his van was attacked by a frustrated motorist yesterday in Melbourne, Australia and lived to tell the tale, however his van was extensively damaged!
This sort of behaviour goes with the territory, I would suggest in this violent age in which we live, how long until we see these sort of retributions carried out in the UK or other parts of the western civilised developed World, where Speed Camera operations are spreading like a cancer!
May be they will need an armed Police unit with them at all times, complete with Tazers and Pava, new type of CS!
The only winners being Governments, Police Forces, Technology and Maintenance contractors, while true road safety is sacrificed in pursuit of pounds and dollers etc!
I hope Speed Camera Partnerships read up about this in the papers this weekend, and due to Health and Safety risk assements they deem it too dangerous in the current climate to make them go out and park illegally, trying to rake in some money and causing misery to motorists by making them lose not only their licence, but thier livelihoods into the bargin!
Anyone else seen or heard this story yet?

You call yourself the motorist's friend but all I ever seem to read of you, or about you, is nothing constructive what-so-ever.
You seem almost joyful at the attack on a (to quote you) "SCUM"era operator.
That is far from the motorist's friend. If anything, you are the genuine motorist's enemy as you are doing no good for the genuine argument against speeding policies with such statements.
The late Paul Smith was a good example of somebody who had the right, legal, ethically correct approach.

I don't know Tony, while I go on record as saying I have no time for a violent attack on a Talivan operator, I can understand the frustration because, despite Pauls good work with Safspeed, ABDs efforts and numerous attmpts at dialogue from ordinary citizens like myself, it has got nowhere and more and more time and money is being wasted on different ways to vilify and ostracise the motorist. Don't forget the adverse press Paul attracted by advocating using the deceased to evade speeding tickets, that was pretty damn wrong too IMO.
Fair points Mr Apache indeed. And I could not agree more that frustration does seem to be getting the better of many a genuine motorist - understandably so.
My response was born of having to delete in the past posts and threads of Captain Gatso which simply did not reflect well on either PH, or the motorist.
I must say that I am not knowledgaeble indepth on the intricacies of the speeding argument - far from it - I simply have an overview. Paul Smith's approach was not always the correct one I've no doubt (and so probably wrong of me to use the word "ethically" ) but I can't see anyway that somebody who claims to be in such a position - The Motorist's Friend - should be seen to be so gleeful at violence, and using words such as scum.
Now, don't get me wrong; I'm an Exige owning 27yr old with petrol in my blood and a penchant for hooning so my loyalties are well and truly with the PH ethos - but I think those who proclaim to represent us should do so appropriately.

If the guy who perpetrated the attack is a normal type of chap, we really need to be looking at what drove him to such extreme action and question it. If he's a chav, then let's hope he gets a sentence.
Would suggest that the expressions 'normal type of chap' and 'attacks another human being with an axe' don't sit well together! If the scumera operators will take it upon themselves to sign up to the job then they must understand that they are at the bottom of the ladder in terms of popularity. In fact, scumera operators and traffic wardens are hated by the vast majority of people.
It's inevitable that some of that hate is gonna turn into violence. If someone mennaces you again and again eventually you will want to hit back and hard. I have actually been very surprised at the lack of attacks on scumera operators in the UK since they began operating.
If I saw a speed camera on fire would I call the fire brigade? No. I would let that damn thing burn.
If scamera partnerhips will insists on mennacing us all they are going to have to accept that some people will react to that in a highly undesirable way.

Thats a shocking attitude to have. Sure no one likes camera vans but you're telling me you'd let someone burn to death for having to work in one?.It's inevitable that some of that hate is gonna turn into violence. Lets hope there arent too many people around with your attitude. How would you feel if someone said they'd be prepared to let you burn due to your chosen job?.
Really very sad.

"He's not a trained police officer, he's a public servant!"So in Aus they openly admit that non-plod are doing the enforcement. I take it there's no 'prior opinion' there then?!?

There's quite a few around here that have had the old 'tyre full of petrol' trick I think.
