Between Swindon J16 and Junction 18 (A46) there have been many roadworks recently leaving purple 'pipes' sticking out of the ground (which I suspect are for fibre comms cables).
This morning, I noticed several covered permanent road signs had been installed on the side of the M4 between J17 & J16, one of which was partially uncovered revealing a speed camera symbol.
I also saw contractors working on the hard shoulder with what appeared to be a large speed camera.
Looks like Wilts Safety Camera Partnership are saving up for the 2005 Christmas party.

No fixed cameras on the motorway?

Come to London much?

There are 5 between J6 and J1 of the eastbound M4 and one eastbound and one westbound on the M4 past Swansea

....and don't forget the two cameras in the 50mph section at Port Talbot (one Eastbound and one Westbound).

Just saw reference to this on

<a href="http://www.safetycameras-wiltshire-swindon.co.uk/pub.asp">www.safetycameras-wiltshire-swindon.co.uk/pub.asp</a>

but it does say specifically that it applies during the roadworks and lane closures only.

Yes, these were talivans operating within the roadworks monitoring the 50mph speed limit, now there are permanent signs put up....and no roadworks.
Just keep an eye out, that's all.
