Heard a few rumours from various friends and saw something in the papers about the potential of the towing test being scrapped ie younguns can tow the same as their parents

Anyone know any more on this?

Would help me as I can’t tow much and never get round to doing the test

There is a consultation at the moment on giving B+E to all B holders without a further test. This is so that they can free up more LGV tests because of the severe shortage of LGV drivers. They are also talking about being able to go straight to C+E without having to hold C class first.

Consultation ends 7th Sept.

Cheers

Would be bloody handy for me, but I’m relatively level headed with a bit of mechanical sympathy etc

My sister on the other hand, could imagine her hitching up some big caravan and driving normally

Realistically though, who's going to take a trailer on the road without doing some sort of research?.
Most of the population are dumb fks who probably wouldnt think twice of doing it.
My sister is a bit of a numpty when it comes to common sense, she has toyed with idea of borrowing mine or dads trailers before, thankfully the cost of a dealer sticking a hitch on is a total pisstake,so that kills the plans quick enough.

20 + years ago tow bars were simpler beasts, couple of bolts and splice of wiring and you were off

Now it’s bumpers and exhausts off, then interior and maybe a dealer bit of coding

For folk who’ve lost an income stream I can understand the bloody frustration of the knee jerk reaction

What I think is a sensible thing is a course much like cbt

I tried to book a b+e course and test in south of England and the cost was reasonably high, but I couldn’t actually find anyone with availability

Being selfish, for me, this is good news

We have a young family so will look at buying a van for a year or two. My car is a big lump so being able to put upto 3500 (won’t be going mad) on the back is good news. Where my car was so heavy before now it meant I could only have some daft little caravan on the back to keep within the 3500, or use my wife’s small car and tow something reasonable throws safety out the window.

I can tow2300 with mine, so think I’ll see if I can book a course on loading or similar

I’m pleased, but I feel confident as I’m pretty level headed.
