European speed camera's? whats the story

Not saying I did set off a few because I never speed but those swiss are damn sneaky critters with their equipment And of course its hard to know speed limits in strange countires with big wide open roads and no traffic to be seen for miles.
And also noticed a little too late a Specs type affair(one central camera with 2 circular things a the sides) in France that unfortunately for me appeared to be facing the rear of traffic(was on the bike).

So just out of curiosty can I expect a letter from foriegn types and what happens if I do get one? Ignore it? or pay up. Either way they can't attack my uk licence can they yet? I rather like it being clean
