No one has time to read that essay so I’ll condense it.

I was burgled.
I saw some stuff for sale online which was mine.
I went to the house to ‘buy’ it and checked serial numbers.
Police arrested the bloke.
But I’ve not heard much since.

I wondered what the usual situation is and what I could expect to happen etc?

Cheers

How sure are you it was the Police who called you back and then rocked up to arrest people ?
Well the police vans. The vests. The tasers and gas on the vests. And the radios - gave me good idea. Plus the handcuffs they put on the bloke. I also got an email address texted to me with an official police email address so send some information. Plus the fact that they knew I was going to his house and I’d only told the police and about 3 people.

I’m no rocket scientist. But I’m not so thick that I’d get conned by the local scallies into thinking they were the police in that situation.

This is purely a guess. But I think those guys are just some sort of reactionary force as I live in a big city and they can take the vest off and search without standing out if they need. But that might ge absolute rubbish. All I was told is they were more of an arrest team and would hand it over to the local police now.
