Have you thought about a Westfield at all rather than a Caterham-£10k should get you a decent one. ACB10's are too sticky for a 1600VX in terms of both the diff and fun factor

aye a roof is a definite and it will, sadly, be up most days especially in the car park at work. i've heard that visibilty is pretty poor hood up and i also think the car looks a bit awkward with the hood up, so weekends will be spent top down!

think a heater is sensible really.

think AO48 or ACB10 might be the tyres for track use

The suspension geometry settings for running ACB10's is different to the geometry settings for running AO48's, I asked this question to the technical guys at Caterham Cars. I can't remember the sttings as I have mislaid them, sorry, but the settings are different. Best give Caterham a call.

yes, i imagined there'd be a difference. i know a multitude of folk who race/hill caterhams, so was going to pool on their knowledge.

once i get a car, i'd set to and get set-up sorted. obv depends what car it is before i decide what tyres to fit.

ACB10s will blow the diff on a 1.6vx if you are on track. On the road they are far too grippy to have fun.

For everyday use get a cheap older K-series as these will do 35+ to the gallon and a 1.6 vx about 25mpg. There are also lots more things you can do suspension wise as the K-Series cars are all De-Dion (1.6 VX live axle).

In respect to making sure you fit. Fitting a Tillet liberates quite a bit of space and is very snug and Caterham now supply a lowered floor kit which has been a revelation for me as I now look through rather than over the windscreen.

Incidentally make sure you get a heater & hood fitted, you tend to find those advocating dispensing with these on the basis of weight saving are the ones who trailer their cars everywhere !

I think Matthew Rae's Dunnell Zetec Westie may be for sale this season locally. It's pretty well sorted. (Assuming of course Mr Nicol wont reduce the price of his HPC "Rocket")

Just kidding - (though everything is negotiable!)Has Alan bought a single seater then?

Back to the thread(almost). If you really do plan to run on the road I would concur with those who suggested a de-dion back end. You could get a basic K series or a well sorted crossflow for your budget.

ACB10's are a pain on the road although unbeatable on a track. BUT as you may be aware there was talk of disallowing them from the road class next season so I would check with AN before spending your hard-earned. ACB10's are supposed to run on a more upright setting as they are crossply whilst A021/32/38/48's like more of the "dreaded neggy" on the front.

When you so buy something, I have a set of nearly new AO38r supersofts on alloys in my garage that I may be persuaded to part with.....

Happy hunting!

well i have heard a few stories about mr N's purchases but so far nothing concrete. The latest is something that sounds a bit like 'filbeam'.......

a friend and I may have a wee plan for the hills next year but we'll see. if our plan comes off (i sound like i'm in the A-Team...) I may be able to buy a more 'sensible' car for the road.

i'll keep my eyes peeled and Alan and Craig have been good at giving me advice so far. anyway- nothing will happen until after new year.

have a good christmas

(Last Posting was before your edit)

I was giving Alan's advert. some more exposure in the hope that a Caterham PH'er may buy it and give the rest of us a chance

My old 208bhp Westie SEi widebody may be for sale again. (The chap who bought it has problems of a matrimonial nature!)It really was an excellent "dual purpose" car and the build quality is a credit to its original owner. I was even thinking of buying it back but if I add any futher vehicles to the stable I'd risk incurring similar problems!

Happy Christmas
