There are good legal reasons why the Blatchat moderator had to step in. I am not going to venture any comments on the rights or wrongs as to what was being dicussed but I am familiar with some of the background to the comments that were being made and the only sensible option was to pull the plug before it got any more serious.

Unfortunately, the incident has resulted in three members being banned from the site - which is very unfortunate. I am hopeful that one of them will be reinstated before long - although I'm not going to make any comments as to which one.

The thread seemed to me to become a vehicle for personal views on one individual on the basis of a comment he made on another thread! Norman's beef with that individual is a separate issue entirely and I would assume (but don't know for certain) that the club decided that it was not appropriate that he used this thread to raise that issue.

I wonder whether the club leaned on 7 Torque or whether Simon decided to take the hard line view on club related postings off his own bat...

The one who used the site to discuss his marital problems/issues or the one the posts just to wind people up or the one that posts on every subject because he has nothing better to do confused tough choice!

What's happened now? The guys in charge have always seemed ludicrously over-sensitive, the whole Arrowstar saga and the excessively cautious legal interpretation they took over libel law following that seemed to me to be out of sync with other forums. This place survives with more than the odd forthright opinion voiced... And its not alone.

It's a shame, but since they went members-only (which was for security reasons too, to control who posted what) I had lost interest personally, since I was no longer an owner.

As an ex-member for 8 years, and a regular BC poster back in the good old days when idiots weren't just posting inane drivel to keep their numbers up, I Couldn't agree more with this post.

So back to the interesting stuff, I assume it was the bloke who used to be fat having a go with the bloke who's recently moved to France. What was the issue? Bulk buys? Accommodation advertisements?

It started off with the guy who used to be fat making a comment that wound up a guy who is in business with the French connection, that rumbled on for a bit, then the chap who moved to France piled in, with some accusations, then it got closed down - quick summary

Cool, thanks for that.

Someone have a word and see if we can get them on here. Then we can all have a laugh...

I wonder if I really want to be member anymore. It was a great club but it has changed recently.

Despite all the bad feeling that has come out recently, blatchat is still one of the best forums that I frequent. It is very quick to answer almost any question (apart from 'why was censored closed?') and is a great resource when you are working on your car.

Add a monthly copy of low flying, trackdays where everyone drives well and other events and I think you'll find it is worth hanging on for a while yet.

Steve, I do agree with you on that. However there appears to be a few that are spoiling it. IMHO when it was open to all, while the idiots were still there, there was sufficient level headed members to dilute them. It was also nice to have wider opinions from other Se7eners, that I feel is a great loss.

Blatchat is only one aspect of club membership. I joined the club in 1996 befoore Blatchat even existed. If Blatchat shut down permanently I'd remain a member.

The Area Meetings are very good fun - although I don't get to as many as I'd like.
