What better way to celebrate...50 years of being expensive :-)

Whilst Caterhams are fantastic cars, I do wish they'd do a bike-engined option. They are so lardy these days I can see why Atom have done so well.

Do Atom sell more cars than Caterham now then????

Ariel are considerably more expensive, and if you thought Caterham's after sales service was bad......

Still takes 3 stages and has to be low baked three times, so not exactly a quick turnaround compared to just doing 1 colour. The cars are not painted anyway as standard so you have to factor in the whole cost of it being done by hand. Agreed a robot finish can be very good but a lot of it isn't as good as the paint on a Caterham. Just look at the flanks of the car and see the almost mirror reflection you get in them, then compare it to the slightly dimpled effect on a BMW or similar. The pack does includes other bits too if you read the story.

So lardy these days? I don't think they are the new Roadsport has a lighter engine that the old one? I think you will find the actual and claimed weights of the Atom are slightly different too (as Caterhams can be), certainly the 300bhp one weighs substantially more than they claim. Ariel have done well, but they still sell I think less than 100 cars a year and are a hell of a lot less practical than even a basic superlight (which they weigh a similar amount to). If the Atoms are so much lighter then why did the CSR260 with 40+bhp less than the Atom 300 post the same lap time round Bedford in the Evo 100 test?

Caterham offered bike power and it didn't sell that well. Bike engines are a smaller niche than some people would have you believe! I know some people are full converts and will never have anything else, there are a significant number of people who tried it, loved it and then went back to car engines. Expensive is the accusation that is always thrown away, but I don't think they are once you factor in how well they hold their value. All very well purchasing something cheap, but if it doesn't hold its value the full ownership costs won't compare.

Someone said "vitriol"...

Didn't mean to be vitriolic. Just dissapointed in the result. The advent of the anniv special edition has been looked for for some time.

It seems a shame that an anniv special edition isn't more well "special". Just not very inventive and inspiring.

The donny event should be good though!
