Surely this is an impressive but ultimately pointless exercise as a 7 could never get this level of grunt down without serious downforce and some very trick electronics.

Have you seen the video? Looks like it's doing alright to me.

Video says its limited to 150mph. I guess above that in a Caterham would be scary but why limit? There should be a race series for these.
Article states - 'only 8 being made' so im guessing a race series would be a bit challenging!

Now to open up a can of worms - I wonder how quick it would lap the Ring!! Ha Ha!

Talk about rip off, you can get a Hartley V8, sounds like the same thing ie. 2 hayabusa engines producing 450bhp but costs $20,000 so by the time you import it to the Uk your probably looking at £13k then just take out you own engine and fit the new one and save many many thousands of ££££££'s

here it is being installed in a Caterham - http://www.h1v8.com/page/page/1821906.htm

Guessing that tyres that run over 150 aren't sticky enough to keep it on the road at lower speeds.

Probably starts ripping body panels off above that speed.

Maybe it's just me but there absolutely no way I could ever justify spending that much money on a car like this, regardless of how much I was worth.

Good luck to those who own them though, I think the term "widowmaker" is definitely applicable here.

The only bits left that are yamaha (well from what i've read about it) are the basic heads - the rest had to be modified/strengthened and made especially for Caterham - Should be a tough bugger to break

I read about this in TG magazine and was drooling all over the page!

Yes, I'd love one. Yes, I'd certainly need the 2 day driving course to handle it.

I can but dream...

Take note that the 500bhp is at 10krpm.
Got to admire those people at RS for combining two bike engines to create that gorgeous sounding V8. It seems to rev even quicker than a sportsbike. That must come from a relatively ordinary Yamaha engine as they don't put a 1200cc in anything "mega" (i.e. Hayabusa or similar) unless it's a bored R1 motor.

In any case it was interesting to see how little time the driver had his hand off the wheel to change gear ! Scary or what? thumbup

Edit to correct- just noticed Morgrp's post earlier. Looks like it's 2x R1 engines then (no wonder it revs !).

Utterly pointless for £115k and in my opinion a complete rip off.

How on earth do they justify that money????

My guess is they build them for circa £30k tops and that includes build time.

Some people have more money than sense.

Just think what a garage you could buy for £115k and I'm talking used vehicles here....

Got to give credit to Caterham for knocking them out at that price and getting away with it.
Its not really anything to do with Caterham other than that they supply the chassis to RS Performance.

The RST-V8 engine costs circa 40k on its own. So your guess is wrong.

Can't you apply the same argument to just about any supercar?

Well done to the RS team getting this out there and selling all 8. Madder than mad Jack McMad but I still want one.

2x bike engines, circa 10K, a bit of welding and a supercharger- behave
