I am thoroughly pleased about the arse situation, as you will know this abilty is a necessity in any form of Caterham Racing
PS I did say it was tongue in cheek though................
....but it is true......or is it just the tyres

Like Ultramarine91, I plan to race in the Mega Grads but a year later in 2009. I'm currently doing a couple of seasons in the BMW Kumho first.
I noticed a comment about joining the club for a tenner first to give more chance of getting in. Is the series over subscribed at the at the moment? If so and I don't get in, how different is a Mega Grad spec to the Roadsprt Inter? Will it be expensive to switch from one to the other depending on entry availabilty?
I also didn't see any answer on engine rebuilds. Is this an annual thing or every 2-3 years?
Cheers

Megas and Supers is full for this year but every chance of getting in next year/2009 if you become a social member first. Specs are starting to differ so swap to/from inters will involve change of gearbox, different plenum, exhaust ( can't remember whether inters is supersport engine)
Once you have had the forged pistons a rebuild every 3 years should be fine although many get a head refresh every 1-2 years ( about £350)

Inters is not a supersport engine. Also inters use the M1 dampers where as Mega's use the standard road ones(think thats right). So if you wanted to change between the two then it would be an engine and gearbox change and changing the dampers so you really need to choose which one you're going to do then stick to it.
Its much easier to change between Supers and Roadsport B as its just the tyres.

Cheers guys. It sounds like Supers/Roadsport B may be the way forward then for switching options.
I'll join up with the social beforehand as I'll need all the advice I can get having never owned a 7 and my mates that do own road spec ones, so a smidge different. Hoping the Caterhams have a race meet that runs on the day as the BMW Kumho so I can spend a bit of time in the paddock chatting to the drivers and looking at the kind of spec they're running.
I'll keep an eye on this forum from now on to check in

I'm doing the academy this year and have heard various different costs for next year.
How much does a typical weekend cost in supers, mega's, roadsports etc?

All up the first weekend with Supers at Pembrey cost me about £870 which includes B&B for three nights, tow car and race car fuel, testing fees, race fees, beer money and a new wing stay - considering I got four races, that's not bad value
James - glad you got it up and running again and still had time to polish it
Cuzza - What would that have cost without testing and the B&B?
I just did a weekend racing the BMW at Brands for about £400 inc entry fees for a double header, fuel and a few parts. That's half the racing you did for half the cost which sounds right, but £400 is a lot easier to raise than £870.
I can afford about £500/weekend but will be camping and not testing and that excludes damage which I have a contingency fund for. Is this realistic racing sevens?

The race entry was £300 IIRC (single headers are cheaper - IIRC £215?), camping is free and not testing is free, so other costs are beer, fuel and food (bearing in mind that the club provides breakfast and lunch for racer and one other.)
