1987 live axle Caterham
Discussion
Thread resurrection time
In the process of rejuvenating the Marina/Ital axle on a 1989 car.
Oredered a pinion oil seal off the bay - wrong size -too big.
Anyone able to point me to the correct one please?
Also want to replace the wheel studs with slightly longer ones. I believe, may be proved wrong, that these are 3/8" UNF but different to mini & Midget in that the splined bit is larger diameter. Any guidance?
Have a Rakeway strengthening kit on order but not heard anything for a few weeks so guess/hope it'll be here soon..

Freelander studs are longer and have the correct splines and shoulder so are a direct fit.
They are a bigger diameter however. They are 7/16 or 12mm so a lot stronger but of course you will need bigger nuts !!!
Its quite a common Triumph upgrade so lots on the web about the change.

Been googling for a few days about this, longer seemed like mini and they don't have the shoulder or matching splines. Lads of people trying to update Marina/Ital and also Morry Minor and everyone struggling.
Rather thought there was (26 years since I put it together and struggle to remember what I did an hour ago).
Having removed the nut(& split pin) by fair mean and foul, I am working on the theory that tighten it back up to the same place as last time.
midgets, Minors etc seem to be around 140 or 150 lb/ft or f*ing tight as one internet poster put it. Apparently the scale goes:- tight, f*ing tight and really f*ing tight.
