Academy Series 2015
Discussion
I did it last year, some of the story is here www.sevenracing.co.uk (including the build blog and racing blog). Happy to discuss anything offline if you wish to.
so for someone that already had a Caterham would you recommend for someone to do it? I currently have a supersport and once i get reasonable would be good to start again as it were and do my own build.
Also, its for racing novices any idea what this means. Is it a specific type of race license they look for you already owning or any?

Academy is open to anyone who has not held a circuit race licence before (National B etc.) karting licences are ok as are some speed licences although check with them first.
It's a great thing to do, I'd say at least half of the guys the year I had done had Caterhams previously of different specs. I did it 2006 and would do it again just watch out though as it will not just be a one year thing you will want to carry on

Thanks Grubbster!!!! Very interesting and informative - glad folk bother to do stuff like that because at least I know roughly what to expect!I've never seen any definition of 'Complete Novices Only' from CC, in my experience this statement is very misleading as clearly there are some very experienced and very good drivers that have participated (karters, sprinters, rally drivers etc included). CC say that they want people to come 'green' to the circuits and go through the learning process together, but in reality if you have the money they will happily sell you a secondhand Academy spec car a year in advance (with a guaranteed buy-back) so you can go and practice everywhere first, in other words the total opposite to what they say. None of this came as a surprise to me, I knew what I was going into and enjoyed my year running around in the middle of the pack, but I do wish they'd be more honest with their customers.
Regarding my blog - I haven't yet written the final entry 'the year in review' yet, I intend to do so (although clearly much time has passed) but I do want to get a few things off my chest and talk about why I didn't continue into Roadsport so I hope I find the time and enthusiasm to write it.

fired off a mail and they are saying if you owned (and used) race license that would not allow you to race. I owned a license (nat b) but never bothered to race but in theory eligible. Just need to decide if want to go through pain selling current car, buying new car to end up with less than i had currently Unfortunately my money tree fell down in last storm.
interesting what you are saying about how some seem to stretch what is advertised.

Yes, signed up for 2015!
Not sure what I've let myself in for but here we go! Carpe Diem and all that....
Never owned a 7 and probably driven one about 5 miles. Never driven on a proper race track, so definitely meet the lack of experience criteria!!
Look forward to meeting fellow competitors in the not too distant future! I know one of them because an old school mate of mine has also signed up! We are not remotely competitive so everything should be fine.....

Well, I have driven a Caterham on a track now! Did a few laps at Donington today and despite my dismal performance I've got the drug!
Apologies to all the GT3 etc drivers that had put up with the dawdling newb!
Just need to get my car delivered so I can get on with some practice now - it is very much needed!
If anyone is undecided about signing up for the Academy - or getting a Caterham for track driving - believe me, do it, you won't be disappointed!!

Dgcbev, look forward to meeting you soon! Good luck with the build! I'm afraid I copped out and went for the factory option. Just couldn't see myself halving time to get it built in by the start of the season.
Went to Silverstone on Saturday to see the final round of the 2014 series and I'm now keener than ever to get the car!
