Number plates: advice please

Not wishing to 'chav' up the Caterham or anything... But I reckon the smaller plates that several owners run with on the front really make the car look that bit more aggressive and certainly suit it better... The standard ones look a tad cumberswome don't you think?

Does anybody know the legal stance on dimensions, letter size etc. or is it likely to be a similar story to the Cat- make sure the standard is on for MOT?

I have asked in a couple of local driving accessory shops but with no answer as yet- and none of them would be able to make one up.

Also what's the story on stickered ones across the top of the nose-cone?

Any tips would be welcome...
