What's it like to drive - being as you're probably the only person posting with actual experience.
However, for a cheap, nippy MPV, it's well made, fast, easy to fix and fun in a slightly old-school hooligan way.
For me it was a choice between a boring but competent MPV, or an interesting fun and genuinely quick MPV, so I'm lovin' it!
I also sometimes do not get the hate towards Vauxhall. I (well my family) have had two Zafira's and both were great cars. We had one brand-new and the first lorry load of facelifts in 2003.
It has that great Flex7 seating which although not rocket science nowadays, it was back in 1999 when the Zafira was launched. We opted for the 1.8 Elegance so cannot comment on the GSi but I always wanted one. IIRC it has a 2.0 Turbo, and part leather seats. All in all a great car, and I bet it would serve you very well. Try and opt for a post 2003 example as that was the year of the subtle facelift.
Downsides: The only downside IMO is the dash design. Great in 1999, but they never changed it all the way through production.
Hope that helps.

V70R is so much quicker, better handling, more comfortanle and a much nicer place to be.
This. Or a T5. It'd show the "angry frustrated dad" Zafira the way home without trying, fuel economy is no worse than quoted on here for the Zafira and it is a FAR nicer place to be. It also makes for a great sleeper with the badges removed - I can't think of anything more pitiful than a car like a Zafira trying to be cool with a bodykit and stupid oversized alloys.JREwing said:
This forum has such a passionate hatred for all things Vauxhall, and I don't quite understand why. I bet that 99% of the posters have never owned one.
Personally, I've only had good experience with them, and until I can afford a Jaguar I'll probably keep buying them.
Agreed. I've posted before about this. My father has had Vauxhall's for years myself and a few of my friends have owned them in the past and haven't had any horrific experiences.Personally, I've only had good experience with them, and until I can afford a Jaguar I'll probably keep buying them.

Currently a friend is having egr issues on his vectra and another friends Mrs has the most problematic astra cdti in history.
I've got a GSi. Mellowman's comments about being dated I agree with.
Good points are that it is capable of being reasonably quick and considering it's an MPV handles well. They can I'm reliably informed be re-chipped for more performance.
Very good space in both the boot and rear seats. Looked at newer V70 and my 6'4" son number 1 couldn't sit comfortably behind me in the V70-he can easily in the Zafira. Slightly higher seating I find really good. Flex system could not be simpler.
Bad points-only front seats are Recaro for non PCV cornering-they're a bench. If only 2 in rear and they can reach the grab handles that helps. Some passengers almost prefer the 2 extra rear seats if they can't sit in the front.
Mid 30 mpg on a sensible run. Nearer mid 20s if you use the rev range.
Tax on 225g/km isn't exactly cheap. Front tyres obviously wear quite quickly.

Lots of love for the V70 here too. I only owned the D5 version, but it's in a different league to the Vauxhall for comfort and quality. Not a bad drive too. I had a high miles example and felt the need to stay on top of things by having the PPC diagnostics reader from BSR. It enabled me to buy an example with a few faults and fix them cheaply!
Having said that, a while ago I had a test drive in an S-Max, and it was a superb driver's car. Now is a great time to buy any sporty but thirsty petrol car. Most owners usually sell because the high road tax and frequent and expensive fill-ups just get you down when money's in tighter supply...
