The real reason that there are cap-less filler necks relates back to the US legislative requirement for no evaporative emissions leaks. If a leak of any vapour is detected from the fuel system the vehicle must put a MIL light on to alert the driver of the issue - he then has to get it sorted out which usually entails a trip to the dealer to diagnose and clear the light. When you had a separate cap - this resulted in lots of customers getting MIL lights on because of loose or missing gas caps. The cap-less system is designed to eliminate that problem (presuming that the seal on the flap is good) We occasionally get issues with the seal not seating correctly or getting damaged on the Ford GTs - this was an early use of the system. I think it's a lot more robust now.
You certainly shouldn't be able to get fuel coming out of the filler with this system - of if you did the MIL should be on (on a US vehicle). This isn't an EU requirement to my knowledge

Quick question guys - do you know whether different drive modes will affect MPG?
I do a lot of miles so I'm going Ecoboost, but I imagine it'll be in Sport 100% of the time.
(PS I currently drive a Giulietta and while the manual says 'Dynamic' gives worse mpg, that's not true in my experience).

I can't see the drive mode itself affecting economy.
The drive mode will most likely alter the pedal maps changing how the car reacts to throttle pedal inputs, sharpening the back-out and tip-in and making the car feel more lively.
If you consequently change how you drive the car that will have some effect on economy but it's going to be pretty subtle differences. The manufacturer has to homologate the car for fuel economy so they're not going to then provide the option to switch to a more or less economic map.

I have a throttle controller on my 350Z that means you can alter how keen it is, from almost undriveable its so keen to its feels like its broken, doesnt seem to affect the economy, or lack of, that is down to the journey and how sensible I am being, or not.I do a lot of miles so I'm going Ecoboost, but I imagine it'll be in Sport 100% of the time.

If it's an auto, Sport mode will change up/down at higher revs so in theory have worse MPG. Otherwise it really only changes the steering response. Much more to do with how you drive it though.

Bit late to jump on the thread, but I only just discovered the forum.
Ordered a GT in competition orange/ceramic leather upholstery with the (not very popular) option of an auto transmission in May. I'd ideally like the manual, but I spend so much time in traffic my left foot complains too much when I drive a car with three pedals. Also the Auto appears to benefit from ever so slightly better fuel economy. Anyway, until I can test drive one, I'll have no idea which I'd REALLY prefer.
Anyone else gone for the Auto?

Yep.....had a total left knee replacement some years back, have driven a manual ever since, but this time I really fancied an auto......There's an interesting video on YouTube showing a manual and an auto side by side, booting it from around 40 MPH, there's not a lot in it, but the auto just pulls ahead every time

..... it's exactly the same as it was before! Pictures still have the wrong captions, text is the same, configurator is still cp. Silly me, foolishly assuming that the configurator would be updated to include all the options ..... and the chosen options would actually appear on the picture so people could actually get a good idea about what they're giving Ford £35k for! Still, when the car is selling like hot cakes why bother - we're only paying customers after all!

Until very recently, I ran a 2012 5.0 automatic. In all honesty, Ford's 6R80 is not a very responsive transmission - durable, certainly, but a bit crude and slow shifting, almost like it can't keep up with the responsiveness of the motor.
There is a great fix though. I installed a Bama Performance SCT X3 flash tune and it transformed it. The tune over-writes the transmission OEM clutch lock-up, shift-points and shift firmness. Only (possible) downside is that if you intend to use the 'performance' or 'race' tunes ('race' was a little too aggressive for comfortable street use, in my view) you need to install a more voluminous intake. I went for an Airaid CAI, but JLT, Rousch, Steeda etc., all suitable.
Out of the factory, the auto transmission is slightly disappointing (to me, at least). Despite that, in the 1/4 mile, auto is a few 10ths faster than manual - unless you are up against a really skilled pudding-stirer.
They are completely different tunes, and we don't know the dyno curves, one could be made for city driving with an earlier peak where as the other could all be at the top end, also we don't know what slip dif is in each one which makes a huge difference to performance from what I've seen & also we don't know how fast he was shifting,

The picture on the Ford UK website is still the cartoon of a US car. My local dealer even shows the interior of the previous gen Mustang on it's own website.
It is all very amateur and disappointing.

I'm dreading calling my dealer to hopefully () change from climate seats to bog standard since I found those Ford Racing Recaros , only to be told that actually yes, there was a lockdown date for spec changes and no, we didn't inform of that & now it's too late.
They acknowledged I wanted to change from DIB to OW at the end of May and no mention was made of a lockdown on spec then, but then they didn't actually CONFIRM the colour change so....

Since going up to the Liverpool launch, confirming my spec and actually parting with some money, I've sent numerous emails asking for updates on build and delivery schedules - and heard sweet FA. I'm not even sure I've actually got a car! 'Fred Karno's circus' is a phrase that springs to mind ..... quite frequently!
