Drooling over pictures of Gears Of War ... dreaming about how great a Warhammer 40k version would be using the same graphics engine. Can just imagine Terminators making their way down the corridors of dark, hulking ghost ships ... ...

I know Funnily enough i was both as a child. I adore the whole universe they've thought up though. I used to lay awake dreaming of being a space marine

I spent many hours as a wee boy playing the table top game with mates. It was like a sci-fi version of chess. Am sure my eye sight was permanently impaired by painting the figures with tiny brushes!

man, you're tempting me in to some retro gaming. Shame I only kept the SNES...

Fair enough. But it does counter act your statement that only beardy geeks play WH40k in all of it's forms, doesn't it? :P

You are a girl so i am predisposed to be nice to you.

Dont make me say something horrible

I have seen your posting, Fegeek is an appropriate term.

My Hobbies generally remain secret because of the utter domininance of semi autistic smelly people involved for the most part.

Oh bugger me being at work and unable to view that picture. Is it a fair maiden lounging against a table top board whilst moving Space Marines ????? Is it? Is it?

It's a screenshot of the fantastic game Dawn of War, which is based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Even if it wasn't based on a board game it would be a great computer game.
Never played gears of War, but 40k does lend itself to very good sci-fi games as it has a well thought out and wide ranging set of races, weapons, etc.

Dawn of War is great, isn't it? And agree about the universe created for warhammer 40k - whether you like the little men on a table top or not it lends itself brilliantly to immense futuristic wars.

Would still love to experience the claustrophobic terror of moving (in 1st person) in full Terminator body armour down poorly lit corridors of some abandoned starship....

I agree the GoW engine would work well - I have already thought the wretches were based on the Genestealers.

That was what got me thinking on these lines. Played a few warhammer 40k (and just warhammer) computer games over the years and have often felt the games, although accurate content wise, have severely let the franchise down (Dawn of War excepted). It's about time a decent games developer made the most of this franchise.

Yes, but it is just an expansion of Dawns of War ???? Looks lovely though. tah for post.

Interestingly that post also refers to Company of Heroes - by same people who did Dawn of War. Looking at the photos for CoH .... wow. Looks amazing! Not really one for of-this-world games, but might have to have a dabble there.

Yep Dark Crusade is the second (and final) expansion pack for DoW, it adds a lot of new units to the existing races as well as bringing in Necrons and Tau races as player characters. Odd thing is though, that because it overhauls the game so much I've heard that it'll be a stand alone, in effect it comes with Winter Assault and DoW embedded in it.

Of course that could be bupkis who knows; either way I got my grubby little paws on it a while ago and I've completed it as Necron's and they're a blast
