Sorry but a lot of that is still hogwash, I like I imagine a lot of other PH'ers work in the IT industry so can see through it. Yes a workload\userbase of that magnitude does present a lot of challenges but there are many commercial companies who cope with this kind of load and more on a daily basis. If you don't have the expertise or raw hardware to cope, it is now easier than ever to buy it in and subsequently scale it back when you've gotten over the initial rush.
Saying there were more users than anticipated, really? Aren't there clever statistical analysts who do this stuff for a living? Surely even a look at the user base of other recent games will give you at least some inkling of the kind of load you can expect.
I suspect the answer is a lot more cynical then that, someone will have sat in a room and worked out that it will cost them £20m to set up or buy in the extra capacity to cope with the initial load or the alternative which is spend £5m and just put up with moaning users for a few days, they'll probably even have worked out how much revenue\future sales might be effected by all the bad will and decided it would be a lot less than the money they'd need to spend to make it work properly on day one. This will have been purely a financial decision only, all the rest of the excuses are rubbish I'm afraid.

I could do with some guidance.
I've only got a PS3 as i bought one 2 years ago when Driver: San Fransico was delayed for the PC. I've not touched it since, but with GTA 5 not out on PC yet i had to give in and bought it. Played it offline for a while, slowly getting used to this PS3 controller instead of keyboard and mouse, but now i wanted to try the online bit.
Created an account/character etc, i then have to race Lamar around the mall which i do, and win, and then after a million hours of "loading" (showing online tips) i get to another cutscene with Lamar who tells me to drive to some meeting.
But i don't want to drive to a meeting, i want to play/drive around with loads of other people, but despite seeing the occasional "such and such has left the game" i don't actually see any other players ??
If i go onto the map there's 1 other player (boulb) but he has a no entry sign behind him, and when i go to his location on the map there's no one there.
And when i click "join another session" it just starts the cutscene with Lamar again.
So how do i get to drive/play around with other online people please folks ?
Had a class session last night with my mate and a random. Few races and then a bodyguard mission where the random had to take us out on a journey from the airport to the hills. He lost
Excellent fun but it took about 2 hours to finally get on a session together that would actually load jobs. Kept getting 'failed to join job or activity' but switching sessions eventually sorted that out.
This will be an excellent game once the bugs are ironed out
And.. Was highly amusing shooting my mates tyres out while he was in ammunation. Much swearing ensued when he got back in his car

I managed to create a character on day one (XBox) and do some free roam until it crashed (no mission icons available however). Since then it takes me straight to the first race screen.. "waiting for other players" and just stays there, no matter how many times I try.. Grrrr!

How do i get in a car as a passenger (PS3) ??
Some guy got in my car and we robbed a store together.
I then tried to get in someone elses car but it steals it, i get out again, but he got angry and killed me.
When i tried to with someone else i kicked in his window and he drove off.
Perhaps tap triangle like you get in a taxi? Some guy got in my car and we robbed a store together.

When I get online (if I get online) I want to be able to join a session of only PH crew members so we can the all do stuff (like heists) without having to worry about some random halfwit deciding to shoot me/ run me over etc.
Is that possible, and if so, how?
It is possible to host a private server (invite/crew only) we need to arrange a time/date for this, then we can heist/race/blow up stuff to our hearts content. Is that possible, and if so, how?
I've managed to do several missions one my own, or with randoms, but last night I finally did a job with a fellow crew member, LukeR94. It was us against one either guy, down on the West Coast near Del Perro beach. Unfortunately I got taken out fairly early, but Luke cut the other guy in two with an SMG and we won!
