As for that Corvette TT, what a pain! I can't believe someone has done a 7:17 in it, I can't even complete a legal lap at around a 7:58 pace (taking mistakes away). It is just so awful on the brakes, once it starts to slide, it is gone and it takes an age to accelerate. I don't like the Nurburgring TTs as it is so frustrating to have to go through 8 minutes of wasted laps, I don't mind so much when the car is fun to drive, but the Corvette really isn't, they have a lot of work to do if that is how the prototype drives at present!
biggrin managed a 7:31 after a few laps, not bothered trying again,as you say the car has little grip with them tyres and no much fun smile
Nurburginrg TT?

F*cking love Nurburgring time trials!!!

The seasonal time trial for the Corvette C7 Prototype. I won't answer the second question!

bks I missed that event.

Went in for the change time/weather one. Three laps to beat 16 cars... fried my inters after the first lap then got punted off by an AI Skyline pace car!

Swore very loud. Would have chucked a joypad through the TV, but was using a wheel, thankfully. ; )

Don't know about that, you can do much more damage with a wheel. biggrin

I quite enjoyed the Corvette time trial, in the sense that no set-up changes were allowed. The C7 handles pretty well in my opinion, it has good traction for that level of power - albeit with a bit too much corner-entry understeer.

I wish GT5 was updated with more cars through DLC. Considering the game was optimised for online playing, it’s been disappointing at how few cars have been added. And when we get new cars, things like the BRZ and Scion versions of the GT 86 and Mini Cooper S 11 are just a waste.

BMW 1-Series M Coupe, new SRT Viper, C63 AMG Black Series and M3 GTS please. What about all the original GT tracks, and can we have Sonoma back?

Seemingly all the Japanese cars never get ditched by Polyphony Digital, yet cars like the BMW 8-Series has gone from Gran Turismo. I’d rather have an 840 CI than a different year of Honda NSX.

Damn it!

Got a 7:50 on my first, but had an off so the time was void. F*cker.

Plenty of time in that car, but as mentioned the car's natural under steer doesn't exactly make a track like the Ring an easy place to be.

Will try harder!

True dat. The game looks incredible when the sun goes down, too.

7:47.8 on my second... Should probably get to planning my New Years, but I'd really like to get a 7:30... Ha.

Getting back to be AI debate, I really think GT4 was a lot harder especially in A Spec, I remember really having to fight hard to even catch first place guy, especially in the top 10 race championships, especially in the 787B was my main opponent an only holding on by a second's gap throughout the whole race. I've wizzed through both A and B spec upto expert in GT5 in no time at all. Especially A Spec where I'll finish the race at least an easy 10+secs ahead of them and most are passable on the 1st lap.

Yes, the Artificial Idiots in GT4 were notoriously unobservant. Theyvhave certainly improved for GT5, nut somehow in GT4 it was possible to find some events where you could set up a proper challenge. The VX220 championship springs to mind, where you neededa hugely modified VX to keep up, and then there was the Alpine championship, which was a great challenge and could be made even tougher by opting for an ...A310? In that car I could not win all the races so it became all about maximising finishes and not making mistakes and stealing wins where I was strong. In both championships a good qualifying session was important.

Same with the aworld Championship, again it was easy to pick a car that made a good qualifying position essential, and then some of the endurance events could turn up some spectacular contests too. I had some brilliant races at El Capitan, New York and Laguna Seca in a Lotus Elan.

Perhaps the endurance events in GT5 are as good, I have not done many yet, but the lack of qualifying in the shorter championships means that you have to be the fastest car/driver combo on the track to be competing for a win. You can't be equal fastest and have a great battle with some car going as fast as you, because you will never catch that car in the first place.

So you never get a good, evenly matched race because you always need a car that's half a second or more faster per lap than everything else, unless you're happy battling for 7th.

The AI is dreadful, I've watched Motorsport for years and never witnessed competitors braking randomly or cutting across others without care.. Hang on, no that's wrong, it happens all the time! Lol

AI is terrible on GT5, but my main issue is the lack of standing starts on seasonal events. I’m not sure why races start with each car strung out; it takes the fun out of racing. Even having a close double-file start would be better than what is at present.

I can deal with the AI, as you can always race in lobbies against real people.

That is true, it's always really been about the cars and the progression, not about the AI racing really, but a few simple changes would make what is an essential part of the game more enjoyable. For me the online racing works really well. It's easy enough to get a room full of like minded racers.

The other thing I'd have liked to see is the ability to build point to point tracks, as well as circuits, so you could build your own backyard b-road to enjoy your fine collection of cars on. But the online racing definitely makes up for a lot.

That is one of my biggest bugbears - I actually like racing lesser powered cars against LMP1/ GT1 cars.....I don't expect to win, but I'm miles behind just crossing the line. Drove the Cusco Impreza on the Nordschleife last night, and I was 30secs behind the leader by the time I actually got onto the Nordschleife. Why have they set it up like this? And no qualifying for Championships - ToCA WTC used to annoy me with random grids, yet the top drivers always started at the front.

Yep, it’s the absence of basic features/content which can get irritating. Qualifying for a race shouldn’t be a hassle, nor should merely reinstating original Gran Turismo tracks.

The pp bonus is a bit baffling, too, its hard enough starting a race with cars so strung out, let alone reducing pp.

I recently started GT5 up again to see whats changed over the Christmas break the one thing I really really wish they did was sort out the sound effects. After playing a lot of Forza the one thing you notice is how much better the cars sound.

I'd also like it if the night racing on the Toscana tracks wasn't like having your eyes closed. frown
