I was so disappointed in this game. I love a good open world single player game, but while I found it very pretty to look at, I just found it all a bit tedious. Loads of travel with little to do on the way, characters I didn't care about, awkward combat mechanics etc.

A real shame and can't even hold a candle to the Witcher 3 for how an open world game should be developed.

I'm just into the last part of the game and have to say its been an incredible experience ,there have been issues with it working and lots of tedious stuff that contributes to the game being far from perfect ,but as an overall experience and I use that word as it sort of is more than a game I think it unmatched.
I run a mediocre system gtx 1060 ,16gb etc and by far an away this is the best looking game ,I had moments where I would actually stop just to look at the scenery and take it all in.
I started it for what must be the tenth time last month (struggled to get into each time) and have thoroughly enjoyed it smile currently at the 2nd epilogue biggrin

Will load up the first RDR on the weekendbiggrin

If you want to experience more after the single player story I highly recommend purchasing the strategy guide to help complete the extra side missions. The guide contains maps for all cigarette cards, dinosaur bones, gang locations etc - I finished the story back in Jan, but thanks to the guide my experience has been extended with more exploring and meeting some new characters.

I think it's an absolute masterpiece. It isn't perfect... but I enjoyed the world they created.

Just started this up again, not played it since the first few weeks it was released. Just did the mission where someone owes you a debt and you have to hunt the animal in the cave, was pretty spooky!

As long as I'm going through a single game. After its full passing I plan to enter the network game. In the network game read that a lot of problems, ban accounts and hacker skeleton, chests at the opening of which you get a lifetime ban. Is it really that bad in there?

I started playing online but tbh I spent so long on the single player and have several unplayed games to get to that I have decided to not bother.

I finally caved and rebought this on steam.

Sadly.

what an absolute piece of st game. I say this as someone who has bought and played every rockstar game and 100+ hours on RDR

There might be a good game under all the ste, the terrible controls the god awful usability, how can I not walk at a reasonable pace?

why is inventory almost impossible to use, why do i have 6 different health/stamina meters and each with their own 'core' and consumables etc? that I can craft?

everything I do seems to make people shoot at me - for example I rescued a kidnapped woman, pressed the key to cut her bindings which for some reason meant I kicked her, which killed her, and was witnessed so now i have 8 sheriffs around me shooting? what the fk?

Same as I enter strawberry - map pings, says hey look in the window, ok so now I'm a peeping tom ?? ok, oh look sheriff, now shooting me ???

I cant play for more than 10 min without killing it in task manager. uninstalled and pissed i cant get a second refund on this garbage.

I stopped playing it when I kept getting massive bounty's on me for stupid things like accidentally running over someone in a town and because it was early game I had no money, have went back to it recently though and I'm currently onto the 4th Chapter, enjoying it, but there are still some stupid game mechanics in it.

I had None of those issues, the walking is slow but it is meant to be for a reason . Sounds too late for you but watching some you tube gameplay guides would have helped you with several of those issues you describe.

Tutorial = a couple lines of text about them that vanish within seconds?

Anyhow I dont actually see the point of them they dont add anything to the game they dont make it more fun, they just get in the way.

Really does anyone enjoy them?

I found it a struggle at first utilising the inventory system, and even getting to grips with how to manage the cores. But persist, it does fall into place and becomes fairly natural. I didn't particularly find food management tedious, more just a "oh, health's a bit low, I'll eat some beans" by end game I had more tinned food, liquor and tonics than I knew what to do with.

Core game play can get tedious between missions, in GTA you had a myriad of transportation options - sea, air, road. You will occasionally get tired of riding from A to B manually, but luckily there is a cinematic camera option that also acts as a sort of autopilot. I did this most of the time, however you will miss events happening in the world (and I did come back from the toilet once to find I had been jumped and subsequently killed) but once you get past these nuances you are going to experience one of the best story driven games I've ever had the pleasure to play - it is fantastic, stick with it.

Edit: I am aware there is also a fast travel option with camp upgrades - and the station wagon which I did use sometimes.

I have just returned to this after a 8 month absence. I’m definitely a causal gamer now at around 15/20 hours a week. Apparently the guidebook can be found online as a PDF wink

Really enjoying the game. It’s kind of relaxing just to dip into the world and decide whether to explore or follow the game story. Found a pirate hat which makes for some amusing comments from the camp and strangers. I reckon there is a massive depth that I’m not even touching yet !

Only just found out how to use the fast travel and I didn’t know about the scenic view (auto) follow the road/path option....though the first time I used it I was ambushed by raiders en-route !

How do you get perfect pelts ?

It's a purchasable unlock for Arthurs wagon when you want to fast travel out, and when your out in the wild set up a camp then you can fast travel from there as well.

You need to find animals which have the 3 stars on their name before you hunt them; anything else is not perfect, then mostly you need to one shot them with a suitable weapon when you're in dead eye and it highlights the correct spots to hit them, usually the head or heart.
