Bit gutted I missed out on the massive Rogue session you lot had yesterday, I Joined just after you guys left and Me and Kaney were just chilling/messing around in the DZ, we did go Manhunt twice but with just two of us, even up that ladder, we couldn't stop the onslaught that followed. With 1 hr left of the Beta before all our progress is wiped before the launch, not really sure what I'm going to do to keep myself occupied to pass the time. Might get rocket league back up and running again!

Played it for a about 2 hours on Friday night and didn't switch it back on again all weekend, that should tell you all you need to know about what I thought of it.

Confusing and ill thought out HUD, maybe my eyesights not what it used to be but trying to read tiny text on screen is not my idea of fun. Clunky controls, clunky cover system, normal enemies take 2 clips to die, the shooting mechanics and gameplay just aren't very fun. Maybe the beta wasn't showing the game in it's best light but they could have done a better job of trying to teach you wtf was going on (without the use of yellow lines and tiny text bubbles).

Won't be ordering on release I'm afraid, I'll wait to see how it develops but I'm not holding my breath.

I pre-ordered the fancy edition a few weeks ago, as a few mates are all for playing as a group, but with all the best intentions i remember getting a raid together on WoW and its always a faff, and playing the beta, i can see the game becoming massively annoying if your not in a squad, solo-ing will be hard as they WANT players to team up.

It will be like destiny and Halo 5 all over again, and the Hud is a massive mess, too much going on.

The gunplay is good, but hoodie wearing thugs taking 20 rounds while my health bar goes down like a hobbled penguin leaves me looking like i will keep my money.

I'll buy X-com 2 instead.

It was EPIC. hehe I think we survived 3 manhunts on the trot as a 5-man squad and ended up with a load of EXP and DZ funds as a result. biggrin The proximity chat was particularly hilarious- "get down from there you camping bds" heheshoot. At one point, we branched out into the street and started running and gunning. Reminded me of the old Destiny days- just having a laugh. smile

And to think, what we've seen is the equivalent of the Destiny patrol meshed with a bit of crucible. There was nothing of the equivalent strikes, raids or more interesting missions (assuming they'll be present). I am looking forward to this.

Playing solo changed the game somewhat. The DZ is a very different place- it *almost* feels like a survival horror. At one stage, I ventured into a courtyard to see 3 agents hiding. I overhear them debating whether to kill me or not. I legged it. They chased whilst shooting so going rogue. I ran around the corner to see another squad coming towards me. I thought I was saved but they took me out. hehe

biggrin

I loved it and it will be my next game for sure.

Quickly ran out of things to do outside the DZ and spent a frustrating few hours scrabbling around to build up XP and get to level 9 only to get there and find out there wasn't one! Got some sweet weapons (ACR and SCAR-L) on the way though and loving the mods. Sniping's great fun too with a 12x scope mounted on a silenced M44.

Didn't have an issue with the 'bullet sponge' AI. If you hit them in the right place (aim at navel, pull trigger, let muzzle climb do the rest) they go down quickly. Or just pick shots to the head with an AR. One shot kills with the M44 too.
That said, there were a few yellow bar bad guys that seemed to take a while to dispatch. That was mostly a factor of distance and actually being able to hit them though. Some of the AI was very tough and quite refreshing to encounter.

The DZ was great with a partner or group but very frustrating solo. I got double teamed by a couple of guys when I'd just called in an extraction that had me spit my dummy way across the room. Wasn't happy! censoredbiggrin

Looking forward to it now and being abl eto enjoy the full game.

I too enjoyed the beta but it is a game that is much better in a group, I was getting slaughtered in the DZ solo. I thought there would be a lot of that. What I thought was a bit bad was when I killed someone who attacked me I went rogue.

Going rogue is far too easy to do accidentally, especially when in the murk and snow, and with lack of clear tags. It's hard to sometimes see in the middle of a firefight who are NPC enemies and who are players. They should have a "friendly fire" switch which you activate to show you are happy to damage other players, otherwise a couple of stray bullets in the wrong direction mean you are instantly rogue.

The PVE side of things (missions/quests etc.) seemed pretty one dimensional. As for the DZ, I just didn't like the whole PVE/PVP hybrid area and would have much preferred them to be distinct from one another. After a couple of hours on Friday and a couple more on Saturday, I just didn't have any compulsion to fire it up again over the weekend.

Sounds like you were baited, fella frown. Depending on gun, the first few shots won't turn a player rogue. You can pop a few rounds off from your sidearm and this won't turn you rogue. What it does, is turn a player red and put a warning triangle over your own head (that they can see... so they know who shot at them). Some take that triangle to mean they've just gone rogue and start shooting...

I saw this being used at extraction zones a lot. whistle

You should have jumped into the party chat dude- there's a quick and easy way to create an 8-man squad. As has been mentioned, this game isn't as good when playing solo. True of a lot of games, I suppose. smile

I played all the missions in a squad but, nobody else was online at 8am on Saturday when I ventured into the DZ (and frankly, who can blame them!). I may still pick it up but, I'm less sure now than I was before the beta.

I think the most fun we will all have is in a squad of 4-8, There will be enough of us about to make this happen

While I did enjoy the banter of playing with Ph'ers on Destiny and the Battlefield games before that, I don't like the way a lot of these modern shooters are forcing you down this path.

Sometimes I only have a little bit of time, I might be playing at odd hours or I'm just feeling unsociable that day so I like a game to give me the option to party up or go lone wolf as I see fit. Nearly all of the high level content in Destiny was locked away unless you partied up. The Division is another game which seems dead set on forcing you to do this. It's about choice and making me do something I might not always be willing or want to do to get at the best bits of the game is a fail in my book.

Having played this with my mates and in single player mode, I prefer team mode. The banter whilst running about and working as a team was great in both the dark zone and main missions. Personally it has limited appeal as a single player game as it just isn't offering anything vastly different.

The baseball bat guys really need sorted though!! Two strikes and I'm dead?!

Those that have and/ or plan to pre-order this, what version did you go for/ will you go for?
I have some Amazon vouchers and a discount code so am considering going for the Gold edition that comes with a (1 year) season pass. Seems like a resonable deal with the Gold pack retailing at £18 more than the standard edition on Amazon. My benchmark is Destiny and the year's worth of expansion packs for that though.

Just boggo standard, dude.

It has been alluded to in this thread, but setting the game on earth, in our time, is limiting. There are only so many places they can go. They'll be no time-travel, no "gods"/bosses with shields that justify taking rockets to the face or anything fanciful to elongate the game. This is already causing some issues- blokes in hoodies taking a clip to the head and still running at you... (although Ubi have always been clear that this is not a shooter primarily. Still galling though).

My point is that I question the longevity of the game. What are they going to do with the expansions save for open up more of NY? If that is it, I'll probably be ready for something else.

Still excited for the game and I hope to be pleasantly surprised. smile

I cancelled my pre-order because I can't see any longevity in the game and don't see how they are going to put a decent end game in it.

As for the expansions:

Underground – “The first expansion, called “Underground”, lets a squad of four players explore new territory in a post-epidemic New York City underworld.”
Survival – “In the second expansion, called “Survival”, players will have to try to survive in a hostile environment that will challenge even the most hardcore Division players.”
Last Stand – “The third and final expansion is (perhaps fittingly) titled “Last Stand”.”

I take your point but BF4 was arguably even less of a game than this and I played that for over a year. Granted, part of that may have been lack of choice of any other game that took my fancy but, that's the same point I'm at now. It was also the game of choice at the time for many other players who I regularly played with. I think the latter is what will impact on me for how much time I put into The Division.

I can get the Gold edition for slightly less than I could get the standard edition (if I didn't use the vouchers), so it makes sense to go for that version. Well, to me at least. biggrin

I'm not too taken with it but I might get it anyway, as stated there really aren't any other alternatives out, we seem to have a drought of decent shooter games at the moment.
