If I pre-order this online how likely is it to actually turn up on time? I would be a bit miffed if i'd ordered it and it didn't turn up until a few days afetr the launch.
Also for those of you with a ps3 and 360 what version are you getting? I'm tempetd to get the ps3 version as a few mates have ps3's and it could be a bit of a laugh on-line. I also think having to pay £40 a year for xbox live is a rip-off so still haven't done it.
Most companies will get it to you on day of release, a couple of others usually get it there early (gameplay, shopto) so you'll be safe. Also for those of you with a ps3 and 360 what version are you getting? I have both the PS3 and 360 and I'm going for the 360 version as I'm a total GTA nut and it's the only place for the extra content that will be coming, that's the only reason, although I'm sure both versions will be amazing.

Any gamers left panicking after reading that the Grand Theft Auto IV videogame has been refused a UK rating by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) can rest easy.
Register Hardware can confirm that a misinterpretation of classification documents falsely sparked the rumours - the game has actually been awarded an 18 certificate.
GTA IV goes on sale to UK adults from 29 April, and has only just been given the classification. A BBFC spokeswoman told us that, in addition to any classification, the body creates an extended classification document detailing why a title received its age band.
This document's usually made available 10 days before any title goes on sale. However, because the BBFC was not informed of GTA IV’s scheduled release date, the document was published prior to this.
It’s still unclear how the document’s contents were misinterpreted to the extent that rumours surfaced of a UK ban for GTA IV. The document’s no longer available, but will be released again on 19 April – 10 days before GTA IV makes it into gamers’ sweaty hands.

Register Hardware can also reveal that the BBFC was worried about some of the videogame’s contents, after finding that it gives a recipe for making an unknown drug. However, the body checked all the ingredients thoroughly and found that they couldn’t be combined to make a real drug, so they let it slide.
Had the game been refused a classification, it would have opened old wounds for fans of the Manhunt series. Manhunt 2 almost didn’t make it onto UK shelves because the BBFC thought the game’s content was too violent.
The body’s decision has since been overturned and, although a release date still hasn’t been given, the game has been awarded an 18 certificate. ®

Several pages ago, SteveEvil said that the highstreet retailer is highly unlikely to sell out, I think he might have said they never have before on release day, which is why I opted to buy from the shop.Dont take my word for it as I never "order games" (from online shops) but I simply wouldnt trust one to ship my copy when they promise they will. I mean, how many people are buying from my local shop, maybe 100? How many are ordering from amazon/play/etc ... maybe 10k? Just a guess, and Im not the person to ask, but I personally wouldnt ever order anything I *really* wanted from an online shop on release day.
Steve: Dont you reckon there will be someone here on release day with gripes because their copy didnt arrive?
Nice video find by the way, I quite like that last one! Drunk cam looks fun

There may well be, I heard rumblings of a possible postal strike on the news yesterday which got my ears twitching. I can't remember the last time though when I didn't receive a game on or before release day from a mailorder company.I'm of the mindset that if my copy doesn't arrive a day early I'll be off down to Tesco shortly before midnight, clubbing the drunkards and kids out of the way and huddling around the games area like an expectant father for the game to be put out on the shelves.
Then when my mailorder copy arrives the next morning I'll take that one back to Tesco and get my money back for the duplicate.

So is GTA goign to have multi player on live?
will the 360 get download content?
are there any vids out of actual game play yet?
Yes 16 player multiplayer on live, loads of different game types.will the 360 get download content?

360 is getting some big DLC yeah, PS3 will probably get a couple of little bits, but M$ have secured the big stuff due to the massive amount of money ($25million) they paid to Rockstar in order to secure it.
Go to www.rockstargames.com/IV/ to see all 4 trailers, which feature bits of gameplay, the trailer I posted above features a bit more, but don't expect a full-on gameplay video until we start seeing video reviews towards the end of April.

A quick google said that the extra content will not be launched until the summer for the 360. So I guess i'll get it on the ps3 at launch and then probably get the 360 version in the summer when the new stuff is available.
Wouldnt that mean you'll have to play the game (and all its content) twice?Steve, in terms of play hours, what have they said, in terms of main mission hours?

Depends if you want to rush through it or not, I'd guess at about 50-60 hours if you want to run through concentrating on the main stuff alone. They've said to expect about 100 hours if you want to do everything, go out with your in-game friends a lot (to remain chummy with them) and tackling the side missions too. You'll even get incidental side stuff given to you by just walking down the street, some guy will start chatting away to you and from there you might get told to go and whack his cheating wife as one example.

There are also girlfriend dating sidequests, where you can take them out to the cabaret or to comedy clubs.

Just sounds like a modern version of Oblivion, without all the cool monsters and weapons and levelling and stuff.
Indeed, Grand Theft Horse!San An was perfect, I had no complaints. But what would have been nice, would have been a better quality of first person shooting experience. Rather than flicking through baddies and squeezing fire, a proper FPS weapons experience. GTA is technically primative in that respect. Quake 1 (almost 15 years ago) offered a far superior shooting experience. I wonder if in time GTA might evolve in this direction, in future. With modern COD 4 weapons/aiming systems/sounds/graphics, who knows, perhaps future versions will also evolve in the direction of climbing too, ie ANY wall/building/surface, like Assassins Creed on the PS3 (that was a new & refreshing experience for me this year).
Steve, you dont seem to mind being quizzed, but was it made known how many years of work went into GTA IV, or when they started? I wonder in which year they will start work on the next Next gen system's first version of GTA.

The shooting system has been totally revamped this time around, you have a cover system ala Gears of War where you can take cover behind pretty much anything. There is still a lock-on system in place, but you can let up on the trigger a little in order to change the aim for shooting someone in the leg or head, or you can free aim at things if you want to take out a car tyre or similar.
