I tried to do it on 1 set of tyres, went from a comfortable p6 to p14!! Bugger. Also won an XR PHEV EVO VGT. Whatever the fk that is.

I've been playing GT (dualshock4 user) for a couple of months and have always run no TC/no ABS/no CSA (all type/kinds of assists turned off) as I wanted it to be as real as possible, but today I did a few qualifiers with CSA and ABS on "weak" setting and absolutely blitzed my previous laps!
I haven't played GT since getting GT1 on launch day but I have recently played Foza 3 and I'm sure on there it's faster to run without ABS or any assists?

Got a bit of a dilemma because I hate assists but it seems I need to use them to be competitive in corners, is that broadly correct?

As a side note the game has started automatically uploading my quali replays from today - is this a new feature?

I did pretty good at Brands today too laugh
I qualified and raced the Gr4 at Interlagos, hit X to race again only to find I had chosen Gr3 at Brands instead!
I hadn’t set any qualifying time so was at the back in 16th. I finished 3rd, so was rather pleased with that.
Then set a time and got 3rd on the grid for the next race and finished 2nd.
Did it again, started 4th and won.

Full power map all the way!
I always think for the fuel saving you get from running leaner and how long it takes t refue, I don’t think it is worth the amount of time you lose per lap running slow.
Obviously if it’s a track/car combination you can get away with no changing tyres then it’s worth doing to avoid stopping at all

I saved fuel.... P11 start... finished P3 ... bearing in mind I'm a slow driver (on controller) but racing now in DR B! - no refuelling! keeping it on the black stuff also helps, most people have at least 1 off!

I noticed you had a pretty quick qually time at brands today!! Took me 20 laps to eek past you! (Nothing personal but it's pretty much only you and stotty who set regular qually times on the daily and I'm 5 seconds off him...!)

FWIW I use ABS weak but not tried CSA - what does it do?

I give up with this piece of crap SR stuff

Rammed to Kingdom come all day.

Blitzed by stty Meganes all day in Interlagos, literally 10mph faster down the straights so every bellend used them, so ends up being a once make race. in the one make race, the only way you can score well is to literally ram each other or get out front, anyone near just takes you out.

Rammed endlessly. My rating is now down to DE and I cant really say I have done much to warrant it.

Possibly the worst idea I have ever seen in any racing game in the last 20 years. Utterly woeful.

Forget SR and DR for now and just concentrate on enjoying it. It’s easy enough to keep up with the meganes and beat them in other cars if you don’t want to use one. The M4 is an excellent car and easy to drive with TCS off on a controller.
Spend the time to get a good qualifying time, anything York a couple of seconds off the top 10 fastest will see you towards the front of the grid.
Straight away this puts you in front of the idiots.
Do the 10 lap dailies, avoid the Tokyo and oval tracks. Pick the tracks you prefer, some days I don’t do any daily races at all if the combinations don’t appeal to me.
Stay clean, even if it means being cautious and backing out of manoeuvres. Let people pass if you think they will end up ramming you to pass any way. You will soon start to climb the ranks without needing to try, then the racing gets cleaner as you go up.
Bear in mind it obviously becomes more competitive too!
The key really is qualifying. Don’t just go for the 10 mins till the next race entry option, do the one next to it. Then you can keep going until you’re consistently putting in good times.
Check what other PH ‘ers are getting, aim to beat them. Add people from the wiki on here, the more the better. Once you’re happy then enter the race.
If youve put in the practice it’s easy to work out where to run rings round people who have not done so, it’s pretty easy to spot them taking slow lines!

Haha no problem at all - I do the same thing myself, it's nice to have a yardstick to compare I do it too-I was doing the circuit experience stuff and enjoyed trying to match other PH's times!

CSA is countersteer assist. I set it on weak and it seems to help keep the car settled when exiting kerbs and getting the power down, much more useful than TCS which I refuse to use!
I noticed a lot of top10 times were using CSA so decided to give it a whirl!

Just finished the mt.panorama FIA race, I was using the Z4 which is great for me on the brakes but got out dragged on the long straights, qualified 11th as I couldn't get a clean lap but was up 5th by end of the last lap, I think the whole field in front had a massive smash because I just drove though their ghosts and went over the line 4th.

Started the race with a high B/B rating but my ratings got destroyed in the mayhem and now I'm D/E right after the race!

Someone was doing 2:01s in the Z4 at Bathurst. Watching the replays he could brake 30m later than me, from a higher speed to a lower speed, and then just boot it out the corner, with no TCS. I couldn't even begin to replicate it.

Apparently doesn't happen in FIA races?

I'm not sure whether people have just moved on to a new level. I could do 2:03 with the pre-nerf Beetle and 2:04 in the RSR. Both those times were about 2 secs off the front. I'm doing 2:05 in the Z4 this evening at the winner is 4 secs a lap quicker. That's a lifetime.

The Interlagos daily now has someone pumping in 1:36s with the majority at 1:38 (I'm mid 1:38 after a brief qualifying blat). Clearly I need to get quicker.

My son loves this game. Graphics are very impressive.

My complaint would be, why are there so few cars and tracks? Its really limited.....Pretty poor IMO and if previous GT games are similar why are they so popular.

Personally I don't mind the smaller number of cars and tracks as most are done really well. Most of the cars in previous GTs looked crap. Who needs 20 different Skylines.

I've never been that interested in buying loads of cars for the sake. I tended to only buy what I needed.

What I would like is the ability to turn normalcars into racing cars. I would love a GR.3 F40.

Found the same! Reading here decided to give fuel saving a go, most races started 10-16th and finished around the top 5. I think the unforgiving runoff has a lot to do with it, on some other tracks you can just power over the tarmac, but Brands you just get sucked into the grass/gravel.

They released the game before it was fully completed IMO.
