So far I'm unimpressed.

It has nothing that would make it more than just a new game mode for BF4.

So far if you want to pull heists and play cops and robbers I would still wholeheartedly recommend Payday 2. It's so much better. I will give it some more time though.

I've got the PS4 Beta. I like it, blood money seems a very good game mode. Certainly looking forward to it.

The new BETA is out now on the PC and consoles. It's got some changes and new modes, after the first beta was met with a lukewarm reception.

I've had a few games, it runs like arse on my system. Although having participated in a few BF betas in the past I was prepared for this.. seems fun though. Hotwire is definitely.. different.

Assuming you're in the UK, my xbox one had it in the demo section at around 07:00.

Perhaps it's different on different platforms?

Opened up for PC play at 9 am, although I've had it preloaded since last night. Really like small arms damage to choppers. Makes a massive difference to a nuisance chopper even if there is no AA near by. It at least means you can chip away at it. Also managed to snipe a gunner out as it was hovering which was really satisfying. I'm loving Dustbowl, I just wish it was a bit more optimized. The BF4 beta was almost unplayable for me too, but was fine on release.

My connection to the server seems to come and go. Otherwise I quite like it. Conquest is much like conquest on BF4 just shoot at the red triangles and drive around a bit. hehe

Just wondering how this game is going to stack up against something like GTA5 Heists (if and when they ever release the update). Almost seems lie the same game to me?

finally finished installing this morning at around 1am. Played for just under 2 hours. Quick observations and overall feel so far (only played CQL at the moment)

Ground Vehicles
So far feel mega redundant. Used a few vehicles to drive to capture points then ditched afterwards. apart from the Armoured SUV which if positioned in a good area would do some damage, they just didn't feel useful. They also don't handle very smoothly either which seems a bit disappointing. Slight(and only slight) improvement over bf4's movements though.
In 1 round some bloke was kicking the arse out of our team with a chopper so maybe they fly well? Not much of a pilot on bf games so don't know.

Player movement
Seems to be ok and no noticeable difference from BF4. Had a few issues with trying to vault the odd fence or move through a bush resulting in a few deaths but kind of got used to that considering it's in previous title's.

Weapons
Went through each class last night and settled on the operator one. This (if i do decide to buy) will probably be the most used class for me if enforcer is pigeon holed into using shotguns. Didn't get too much use out of the mechanic as the starter weapon felt like shooting a spud gun at other players. Normally i'd be all over it as i always prefer suppressed weapons due to showing up on minimap etc but it didn't cut it. Enforcer seems ok with the shotgun, although the hitreg was off at times. How some people could survive a point blank slug to the chest and still end up with over 50% health after taking me out is bizarre. Sniper class again was my least used one. Got a decent 250m headshot last night but other then that it didn't do much in terms of satisfaction.

Map
Seems to play well. The capture points could have been spread out a little better to accommodate the open space more but i guess the casual gamer CBA to run more then 20 meters to a point (I'm looking at you COD/MOH2010) Not sure if there's another one on the game but if there is i will have a butchers if i get time after night job tonight. One thing i did like was some of the pickup weapons kicking around in the houses. Used the mg36 and a stinger on some choppers a few times.

HUD
Only gripe i had with this was the ticket counter on the bottom left of the screen which looked all cluttered and small. Probably depressing looking at it though to be honest as the 3 or 4 rounds i played, i was on the losing team each time as the opposition had players hitting 30+ kills and 4-5 deaths before half the round had even passed!

Customization
Had a brief look and there appears to be useful gadgets in there now as opposed to bf4's ones which most never get used. The customization screen itself doesn't seem as well laid out as bf4 which was very simple to use and clear. The battlepack thing about selling cards or using them for weapons will need a bit more looking into as i very briefly touched on it so can't say much on that.

Will probably update this during the course of the beta but for now my overall summary of the game in 1 word so far would be - Frustrating - I wanted to enjoy it but it just doesn't have that Battlefield fuzziness so far.........

Some interesting points. I did watch a video the other day predicting that Hardline would focus more on shooting than vehicles because of the 'cops and robbers' theme. The vehicles are fun though, the dirtbike is quite useful and the helicopters are still a force to be reckoned with. I don't think I've yet seen a mounted weapon on a ground vehicle but I've not looked too hard. Mainly, I use a dirtbike for getting around, typically at the very start of the game, though often I'll play as a sniper for the first few minutes and get a few easy kills from enemies bungling their way forward across the map. The game does seem more reliant on shootouts now, but they're still conducted over a variety of ranges. It's closer to COD than ever before but still defiantly Battlefield.

Regarding player movement, I did find a few instances where I'd try and vault a fence and it wouldn't work or whatever. It's not exactly Dishonored in that sense. I can understand why it's been done like that though, as I was playing large games of Conquest on the Californian meth town map and the gaps in fences create funnelling points in and out of buildings, which you can use to your advantage.

On the classes, I found the mechanic to be extremely fun to play, but perhaps that's because the secondary weapon is a snub-nose .38! One of my favourite guns, no less. The silenced SMG's are fantastic in close quarters and surprisingly accurate over longer ranges, as long as you trim the trigger every few rounds. The operator class is very useful too. The enforcer, I didn't like quite so much. The shotguns are great indoors, but across any sort of open ground they're hopeless. Playing as an enforcer, the only way I could really score was spawning on players or open objectives and flanking enemies inside buildings (like the central motel area of the meth town map). I expect that class will develop as the game goes on, and don't forget that there are rifles in the enforcer weapon tree too.

It's difficult for me to really comment on the classes at this time, since there are gear, skills and hack trees to consider that I've not really looked into. Suffice to say, there is likely a lot of tactical depth which I'm unaware of at the moment.

I was reading an article the other day talking about beta testing as marketing. I think this is very much that, but in a positive sense. I know Battlefield lost a lot of fans with Battlefield 4 (I didn't think much of Battlefield 3 either) so they couldn't afford another bungled release. As it is, this beta feels pretty polished already and the systems are running well. I expect they knew fine well the mass beta test would be well received and is simply a taster to get players hungry for more. It's completely changed my view on the game, as I wasn't interested in it in the slightest and only downloaded the beta for something to do when I saw the tile on my Xbox homepage. I really enjoyed it, I'll be playing a bit more today and will likely buy the game when it comes out.

I've played a bit of the heist mode too now. That seems pretty good. The map is much smaller than the Dust Bowl level and centres around a bank with several floors and access via street and subway. I now see why the game offers crossover weapons on the sniper and enforcer classes. On the bigger maps, shotguns would be useless and on the heist map, there is just no room for a sniper to work, really, unless you can get to the rooftop and hold it. So the enforces have access to some heavy assault type rifles and the snipers can get semi-automatic rifles too.

The objectives in heist mode aren't always clear, there are often a lot of different objective markers on the screen at once and it can be difficult to know exactly what is happening with the objective. But I'm sure the mode will be refined in time. Certainly, there is plenty to shoot at and plenty to do.

I downloaded and played the BETA for about 5 hours yesterday on PS4……I’ve got to say, I like it. The setup seems cleaner and I like the new gadgets they have brought to it, especially the decoy/booby trap device. The grappling hook is a great idea for snipers; now you really can explore everywhere without wasting a heli spawn.

Weapons generally handle as you would expect (although I think they’ve made it even more realistic i.e. you can’t gun on full auto whilst controlling the gun in a single area) although there is a lot of glitching with the BETA when using the sniper rifle on moving targets. There was a definite feel that different weapons and attachments were needed for different game modes/maps. Saw some people complaining about the ‘engineer’ class sub machine gun which I found was perfect for ‘Heist’.

Vehicle dynamics seemed pretty good (although I’m still not sure about the ‘hotwire’ game mode).

I’m quite excited about this and am looking forward to the full version.

2 bad points :

1) there needs to be consistent environment destruction which would encourage the action to move about rather than just bottleneck like trench warfare in one are.
2) The annoying voice overs when you spot or kill someone….utter ste and not called for.

I've not tried the Hotwire game mode. I thought it sounded ste, so I went and had a few more matches of Large Conquest. Excellent stuff. The engineer's SMG is quite useful, even there. Especially now that you can get points for a supression bonus as well as kills, so you don't need to get the killing shot, just put some fire on an enemy at range. I've upgraded to the first SMG unlock on the criminal tree and even that, with it's lower accuracy stat, is very usable.

Hotwire was actually my favourite mode.

The vehicles like the large trucks and vans are the capture points. You drive around with a car/truck full of people all hanging out of the windows shooting other cars and helicopters. All the time you're driving you take points and gain money. In the background, your car's stereo is playing "the sound of da police" hehe

I really liked it in dustbowl particularly.
