As for the locking up - doesn't it make any noise ??

There's an option to turn the tyre screeching sound up, I may just do that

Maybe see you online later, if not, I'm sure PH can organise a race one evening next week.

Would you have to have the full game to join the league? Only have the demo at the moment...

You'll need the full game to experience anything but one track and three cars.

People with the full game can select to load the 'demo version' when they go online, so it's easy for everyone to meet, no matter which version they have. So maybe I'll start a 'Pistonheads' demo server one evening next week, so people with the full game and the demo can all join in.

Maybe Wednesday?

Getting very miffed with the grip/slip balance especially under braking as there is no feedback as to how well things are working so I end up braking way too gently.

I too am having difficulty in judging where the grip is/isn't. At least in GPL, you could see when we tyres were locked under braking, but now it all seems to be guess work. Although, I've only played LFS for 45 mins, so time will tell!

On some cars you can see the tyres start to smoke but having watched carefully I've noticed that some cars seem to smoke their tyres all of the time regardless of the controller input...

What I think we need is a proper force-feedback system and not just the steering wheel. Pedal resistance would help - and a proper gearshift complete with screwedup selector rod and synchro feedback.

It just so happens that the aussies make such a wheel + pedal combo, it's in this month's PC gamer, it comes with pedals that feature progressive feedback, so they stiffen up as you push down harder on them allowing you to judge braking better, the price for such quality... A cool £700 plus shipping and import duties for such a hefty setup.

Any names? weblinks?

I noticed they were pushing the Trackir system to give you a hands off free-look system but I'm not sure how much it really adds to the experience if it means sitting there like you have a rod up your a**e and twitching your head with miniscule movements so you can still see the monitor.

Cheaper do what I do and place a sponge under the brake pedal

That sounds great - except I'm not around much next week... still well up for it though!

You can use squash ball wedged between pedal and body of pedals. It will give you feel of realstic pedals.

So, Monday is GTR, Tuesday is GPL... maybe Wednesdays can be LFS?

Sadly I don't think I can make this Wednesday and then I'm on holiday next week... doh! Maybe someone else should set this up unless people don't mind waiting a couple of weeks... gives everyone time to practice!

pc doesnt matter if you just running dedicated server. even slow 133mhz can do.

upload per car is 576 Bytes/sec

So you want 20 players ?

upload required is 10k per sec. I think i got calcuation right.

its flexiable. you can have up to 20 players. you can change the setting.

take that as pinch of salt.

I'll look into it - i have an old P2 laptop floating around that i might be able to host with.

Just seen that you can skin the cars as well. I think i'll be working on a Pistonheads skin !

ooooo, that sounds like fun! How do you reskin the cars? Is there a dedicated editor?
