If you haven`t bought it yet, don`t bother.

After all the hype, I`m unimpressed.

If you`re expecting to drive a WR car in your front room you`ll be disappointed.

Far too "arcade" like for me.

My first impressions are the opposite, I think it's superb.

I spent a good 3 hours playing around last night. After getting the FFB settings sorted out, and the handbrake to work, and my PC to accept that I was using a sequential shifter, I had an absolute blast! The handling is hands down the best of any WRC game. It is perhaps slightly more forgiving than DR 2.0 but, not by much and if you push and drive balls to the wall, you're going to end up in the scenery (ask me how I know! biggrin )

Admittedly, I'm using a dedicated simrig, which is likely to be very different to a living room, controller experience. The driving experience is very enjoyable I thought, tarmac feel way better than DR 2.0 - not perfect by any means but, much less floaty.

I expect I'll be putting a lot of time into this! Anyone who enjoyed DR 2 should definitely pick this up in my opinion.

Completely disagree, I love it so far. For comparison I'm on PS5 using a Logitech G923 wheel and pedals. I tried it with controller but didn't enjoy it as much. There are a some graphical issues that they seem to already be aware of so these should be tidied up soon. The actual driving of the cars is superb and a lot of fun. I've only put in just under 3 hrs so far but i'm really enjoying it. If you want 'arcade like' try Dirt 5. This is no where near that.

I randomly chose the Caminha stage in Portugal and didn't really look at the length. 33 minutes later in a half destroyed Renault 5 Turbo II I crossed the finish line, I felt like I needed an actual rest!

There is a genuinely great game there and with a few tweaks and updates it will be superb.

I agree... Thought it was great with a few caveats.

1) It's poorly optimised so you get stuttering at the start - shader cashing issue aparantly. They'll sort it eventually.

2) The car list is a cash grab. How you can omit a lancer from Grp A beggers belief. This is stingy and par fir the course with codies.

3) The wheel takes a lot of set-up to get the feel right. Feels too treacle like in the stock setup when quickly dialling in opposite lock - the self centering force seems to get cancelled by tyre and other forces.

4) Sound balance is poor. Even on an intercom you get more engine and drive train noise through your cans. Easily fixed though.

Handling wise, I thought it was good. Night and day better than the new forza and improvement over DR2.

I'm loving it on xbox and G920.

Had an epic blast with Puma Wrc car in Japan and I thought it was one of the best driving experiences I've had, especially after the disappointment of forza.

A few graphical glitches but looking forward to putting many hours into this.

I`ve got over my initial disappointment.

It`s quite good, but not quite as good as I expected.

I`m on the Xbox using a controller, I`m still lacking a real feel for the car.

It`s missing the feeling, the feeling that I only got from Richard Burns Rally, and that game must be over 15 years old now.

I`ll keep at it, there`s plenty of cars and plenty of stages to go at.

It does look like an improvement on DR2.0 but agreed on the previous posts of the physics looking like an updated version of DR2.0.

Here's an interesting look a the physics based on the pre release vids:
https://youtu.be/5nNQlNGksIw?si=xKRSkIAdX5vx8FWZ
I enjoyed Dirt Rally 2 on the xbox with controller but it was hard to keep the cars under control. I had seen that video a few days ago and it makes perfect sense as to why that was. The rwd cars in particular I found I had to give really soft rear diff's and suspension to try and increase grip, reduce oversteer and lessen the rear self steering pivoting action.

I really like the look of EA WRC but if it still uses this physics model I may give it a pass. The stages and car selection looks great however.

Can you say if it feels better than DR2 with a controller?

I would like to retract my statement about the handling being more forgiving than DR 2.0

Group B Time trials this morning - The Audi Quattro is still an absolute beast and punishes all but the gentlest of throttle inputs, love it!

Top of the leaderboard after a few attempts but, only about 25 times total on the board at the moment so I doubt I'll be there for long - at least that's one benefit of pre-ordering hehe

I've never really played racing games, though I'm thinking of getting EA WRC and picking up a half decent steering wheel and pedals.
Forza always bored me, but this looks fun

No triple screen support, no VR support, no UDP support.

They've done nothing to improve on what's gone before.

It's all a bit of a let down, IMO.

Yes I'm in the same boat, I would enjoy DR2.0 for a short while and then get frustrated with the way the cars drove. Just didn't feel natural at all. If WRC generations ever gets cheap enough I might see how that compares.

It's a matter of perspective I guess. Those 3 things are certainly true, none of them at supported at launch. If you're like Karl Gosling, you can get all melodramatic about it and cancel your pre-order and ignore the games many, many good points.

Me, I'm taking a bit more of a glass half full approach. I've been running the game on triples and, it's honestly fine. Sure, I can't set the angle and have 'proper' perspective out of the side windows but, as long as I can see the scenery rushing by in my peripheral vision, I have zero complaints, it has taken literally nothing away from my enjoyment. DR 2.0 was the same and I managed to sink hundreds of hours into that, both on triples and in VR when it arrived.

Lack of VR support at launch is a shame but, DR 2.0 didn't have it at launch either.

UDP telemetry would have been nice but, it not being there for now has saved me the cost of a buttkicker hehe Hopefully it'll follow in due course as I quite fancy a bit of haptic feedback.

The game overall is superb, the handling feels nice, the stages are great! I even managed to get lost on a stage earlier! biggrin

They've improved upon the previous WRC titles massively, and arguably improved upon DR2.

Anybody able to compare this with Wrc 10? That's what I generally play for a rally fix.

I play Dirt 2.0 but don't find it very forgiving!

Having triples and or VR is common. Criticising EA for its lack of support for these is not 'melodramatic' IMO.

It seems to be a console game with merely a nod in rhe direction of PC players. I'm OK with that.

But, let's call it what is is.

How is the variety in stages through a rally - lots of repetition or not so much?

Don't get me wrong, I would have very much preferred all 3 to be supported at launch but, triple screen setups work perfectly well without native triple screen support. Full support will follow and I think focusing on such a non issue while ignoring the games many positives is just nitpicking. People with peripherals needing UDP telemetry are a very, very small % of the playerbase, even among PC players with full rigs.

VR should be there, on that we can agree. All driving games and flying games these days, should launch with VR compatibility.

It's a cross platform Rally game, be it on console or PC - not sure what your point is there as it's clearly both and has never claimed to be anything else.

I just wish I could find an AI difficulty setting that was consistent across all locations. No rally game has ever managed that, and this one sadly is no exception.

I`ve bought a new Xbox controller, I didn`t realise how worn my old one was.

What a difference, I started enjoying the stages straight away.

Having some real fun now!

Been out a few weeks now, what's the general view on this?

Media reviews haven't been that great but is it worth getting? I'd be playing on PS5 with Thrustmaster T300, sparco rally rim and sparco hand brake.

Edited to add my current rally game of choice is Wrc 10. I dip in and out of Dirt 2 but don't find it forgiving enough!

I’ll hopefully find out tonight as my new xbox is finally arriving!
