Ikaruga on "bastard hard mode".

I've got this for my GameCube, and it's unfeasibly difficult. But annoyingly addictive. I particularly like the pompous, epic orchestral soundtrack.

Also, Far Cry on the PC on "realistic" difficulty. I really do think the game is actually impossible to complete at this level.

out of interest - can anyone remember the name of a Steve Jackson / Ian Livingston (I think) command driven adventure game set in some futuristic universe. It was in the same style as the choose-your-own-adventure books (another huge passtime of mine as a kid).

It was out on the BBC Micro.

I seem to recall it started with you on a spaceship which had just docked somewhere. I did a brief search of the net but nothing looked familiar.

That must be the hardest game for me as I never actually managed to even work out how to get off the bl**dy spaceship!!! So the game, for me, consisted of being very annoyed wandering around in this tiny spaceship (and I seem to recall the air was running out).

I was never into the BBC scene really despite hammering elite a few times, but i came across this
on a site:

"Another Peter Killworth Adventure. This one is actually quite fun. It is easier than Philosophers Quest, and more fun than Sphinx Adventure (although Sphinx was not written by Peter). You have crashed on the planet of Doomawangara - Doom for short. You must find the appropriate spare parts for your space ship and get off planet Doom before it explodes."

hmmm ... possibly. Though I am suprised I don't remember such an odd name like that for a game. I seemed to recall in the preamble before the game began proper that I'd piloted the ship in to dock myself (which made the subsequent inability to open a door and leave the craft all the more embarassing!!!!!)

I found Magic Fly to be an utter bugger. Especially the docking for repairs/refuel (never managed it).
