Around certain locations they can be, like where I am based and keep all my ships. They don't tend to target Cobras either, too easy.
I'll bear that in mind and enjoy the anonimity of my mostly harmless Cobra that bit longer.angel

The disabling and then rescue of the Dove Enigma this week was cool to read about. So many people are playing Elite at, well an Elite level.

Griefers are attracted to high traffic systems where they'll find lots of players to hunt. Community Goals are prime examples of this.

There isn't really a ship that won't attract them... but I think generally they like to bag the Corvettes, Conda's and Cutters flown by "Harmless" combat rated pilots, being that they're unlikely to pose a threat but carry a bigger rebuy for the victim.

reminder of rule 1.... NEVER FLY WITHOUT REBUY! - I you can't afford the rebuy of your shiny new ship, dont fly it until you can smile

So checking steam I've actually already logged 80 hours nerd

On todays sightseeing run I decided to have a play with the camera everyone else has been showing off with.

So my first ever Elite Dangerous photo, Ice Geysers of somewhere or other (well within the bubble)

That 200LY round trip got me an invite to the Farseer engineer.cool

Go to maia first and buy meta alloy to take to her, save you the trip. Also save any exploration data, about 20mil worth unlocks rank 5.

Thanks, I'd read about the metal alloys thing so am over at Maia now, Thargoids are everywhere! Had my first decent "sh*t run!" Interdiction encounter too, I had some pirate hunting missions running so submitted to the interdiction and prepared to squish some NPCs only to find have half my shields missing in an instant. Four pips to engine and boosting like a terrified rabbit eventually got me back to frame shift drive but with only 10% hull left and I was sitting on 400k of explorer data. Heart pumping!

Shall have to go save a lot more data for the farseer.

Use this tool (Road to riches) Clicky

Simply enter your start system and where you want to be, and itll plot you a route scanning all the high value planets and systems on the way.

You can alter how far off route you go too.

For example, Maia (Meta Alloy) to Deciat (Farseer) going 1 jump (20Ly) deviation from route, nets you 37 planets.

All you need to do is jump to the systems in the list and scan only the designated planets. Any time I'm going somewhere new, and I've got time, I use that tool, and it makes money rather quickly.

At an average of 300k each (30% more with a Detailed surface scanner), that's 13mil or so.

Just make sure you hand the data in AFTER you give her the Meta Alloy.

Word to the wise, if you need to escape sharpish, high wake (another star system), no mass lock for those.

Yeah I've read that before, but panicked, even forgot my chaff launcher wobble

Road to riches sounds like a top way to make spacebux thanks, although I scanned each system I went through I didn't go and scan planets. Will spend the time next trip.

Always honk when you arrive in a system, even if your insta jumping to another one, as its worth the free money.

Anyone online tonight? I am away with work this week and getting some Elite time in of an evening.

Also quick question, is there a PH private group running?

Stuck with a potato laptop during the week so no free ED for me just lots of ship configuration on Coriolis banghead

Parked in Farseer system wondering if I bother working on mining the stuff I need to get the grade 3 FSD upgrade I have access to or go on another expedition to unlock grade 5.

Arsenic - surface prospecting on Deciat 1, 4, 6D, 6F or 7B - used https://eddb.io/body
Chemical manipulators - found in USS ship salvage, combat aftermath.
Datmined Wake Exceptions (you need a wake scanner) - find a system in famine and go to the distribution centre signal source and scan the wakes.

Brilliant thanks, I've collected random stuff from USS' and scanned plenty of wakes including some Thargoid ones but I'd no idea where to start looking for stuff like arsenic.

I always use https://inara.cz/ to check what materials I have and need for enginneer upgrades. If you are playing on a PC you can upload your logs from the usernam/saved games/Frontier Developments/elite Dangerous folder, I don't know how xbox/PS4 do it but they are on there too. Then go to the galaxy and then the engineers section choose the engineer and the mod and it shows you what you have. Hover the mouse on the materials and it says where you might find them.

eg.

You can manage all your ships, flights, missions, ranks and credits on there. If you want it up to date when you exit Elite go back in again briefly to generate one final log that has all the very latest changes. Then upload both of them.

So I skipped helping with last week's community event of delivering Osmium, Samarium, and Lithium Hydroxide to Bulychev Hub, as it seems did most pilots. 16units would have got top 75% and 7million credits, 73units for top 50% and 15million credits.

Doh!

Blimey. I've just started ED up again for the first time in a couple of years having started in the Beta days; I remember grinding and grinding to get into a Vulture, then spending days hanging round RES waiting for juicy Anacondas to come along and eventually making it into a fully outfitted Asp. Then giving up as I'd had enough. About 4 months to get, in total, maybe 50M credits.

Then I log on this week, use this tool to identify some good systems and spend two hours scanning and jumping. 22M credits. Jesus. I think I'll stick around a while longer as not only does there seem to be a lot more to do, it's far more lucrative than it used to be! A decent-spec Python now seems within easy reach rather than a total pipedream.

I could google I suppose, but always good to get proper opinions here...I fancy a bit of combat - is my Vulture still going to be competitive? What's a good ship/loadout for bounty hunting?

I use my Fer-de-Lance for bounty hunting, combat zones, compromised nav beacons and RES.

I do still have a Vulture though, if it's not engineered go with the best normal shields you can, of course 5a would be best. Don't bother with 5c bi-weave unless you are able to engineer them. If it's PvE not PvP then try and get the mirrored surface composite armour, it has the best thermal resistance and most of the NPCs will be using thermal weapons. Unengineered you will probably be able to get 1 or 2 0A shield boosters fitted, but if you can engineer the power plant you can try more, don't discount engineered E class boosters either, they have high boost rates (see https://inara.cz/galaxy-blueprint/8/ ) but don't have the downside of increased mass and power usage, great for small ships to keep the manoeuvrability and speed up. And then the power distributor so you can keep your finger on the red button for longer.

This is mine, it's a bit of a module storage ship now but it might give some ideas - https://eddp.co/u/HQDi9RfF

For starters though, 5a shields, lightness and speed and a mix of multicannon and laser. Ignore the twin beams above (just storage) I'd run a multicannon and a burst laser.

Noob question, is the only reason not to use a beam laser its power consumption?

Running 2medium burst turret lasers on my Cobra but I was planning on making them beam (maybe gimbal?) When I could afford it.

Does anyone here play on the Mobius XBO PVE?

I have played solo since getting the game, but felt I was missing out on human interaction so thought I would sign up for the Mobius PVE rather than chance getting ruined in open play. Despite there being 16k players in the group I am yet to find another CMDR out and about.

Was in Wangal during the last CG and didn't see a single human, subsequently did a long haul to Maia and its nothing by NPC's.

Should I just chance it in open?
