Well, what a first race for me! Managed to qualify 3rd but by the 3rd corner I was at the back thanks to going off twice, then followed 3 laps of catching upto 8th, then a few more laps and 7th and 6th came... then another spin! So, back to 8th I think followed by another fight back right up behind 5th then fluffed it at the last chicane. Same pattern followed and ended up 7th. I'll be back next week though!

I should have kept with all softs but was watching everyone mention mediums so I put those on the back and stuck with soft on front, what a nightmare! The car was so un-balanced but I still managed a few quick laps in amongst my numerous spin outs, hehe.

PS: No problem Goldeeno, I saw you a long way off but it was one of those slow motion unavoidable moments, haha.

Cheers all
Tom
Yea sorry mate was just getting going again then, sorry dobbo wasnt a direct stab at you, just took me 2mins to get back to the track, and it didnt take me long to find the barrier again. I just gave up after that. The glitching is deffinatly annoying.

No worries mate, blood pressure was a bit high by the end of the race, I don't mind losing when it's because I'm crap, but when it's not really my fault I get a bit frustrated.

Castle Combe next week, the only track I've driven in real life, albeit in my 205 rather than a Lambo...

Well that race was always going to be a bit hairy - very easy to cock things up and take someone with you when driving close. Remember that race laps are very different from qualifying laps - keeping it on the track is more important than overall lap time, and also judging what cars around you are likely to do if they get it wrong and so giving them plenty of space, specially when the connection is a bit dodgy.
I think I was lucky to come 5th, even when driving cautiously I got slightly wide on one of the kerbs and went flying into the scenery frown Hope Castle Combe is a bit more forgiving next week!

Sorry about the lap 1 collision Dobbo - once you're spinning in one of these cars, you really are a passenger and I was quite surprised to find myself crossing traffic again.

The appearing/disappearing car trick happened to me too, though not as much as at Aintree. When you're hooning along minding your own business, only to find a car very large in the rear view mirror - and then vanish again a couple of seconds later it's quite unsettling. Lucky for me that it appeared behind, and not in front.

Still, and eventful race. After finding myself going from first to last at turn 3, I set about trying to salvage some pride. Knowing that people would be falling off, I put the hammer down and fought my way through the field before the tyres started to wear out (soft fronts, medium rears). Everything starting going to plan again and got to fourth, with the leading 3 cars fighting in front of me. Then I span out somewhere and had to catch up again... this time 2nd and 3rd must have got too close and their misfortune was my opportunity. Then a couple of laps battling for the lead which I took after a mistake by Yogi (I think).

Eased off to save my tyres with 5 or 6 seconds in the bag over the next car, only to find Morph wasn't going to give up and was all over the back of me in short order. The last two laps were spent tip-toeing around on worn tyres but trying to hold the racing line. Lost the rear end 3 or 4 times in the final chicane but kept it together somehow - and then crashed into the pit wall. Handily, Morph had spun on the exit from the same chicane.

Phew!

Congrats Rebelstar a good race. I actually wanted 2nd place in Qualifying so I could have the inside line into the 3rd corner and take the lead, a move which did actually work (but I'm not sure I could have beaten your pole time anyway).

After you and Tom span I was quite comfortably in the lead (about 6 second up after 4 laps) but I went to take a sip of my drink and span, trying to make up for my mistake on hot tyres lead me to making a few more mistakes trying to catch the leaders.

Yogi span with about 3 laps left and I got into second and I just thought I'd attempt to hunt you down and go for the win, I can't believe that I span about 0.5 seconds after you on the final straight.

I also get the disapearing cars, I didn't use to notice it in the previous leagues we had (is it something to do with the latest patch?)

Second race in these cars and I still hate them, either my set-up is awful (which perhaps it is ) or these cars do not suit my style of driving, either way I’m st in them.....

Best I could manage was a 1'13, but this was more the fact that on every lap I would be wrestling the car at low speed to keep it pointing in the direction I wanted it to go.

The usual race incidents were a blessing to me and I moved up the order from last to 5th, kept it fairly clean, went for one or two excursions, and finished up in 6th.

Roll on the Special Stage and phase two of the championship !

Results updated with the last two races - lost my FTP software, then the login details.

The appearing/ disappearing cars are a pain and not something I experienced to this degree before. The odd car would pop up in the Previous Porsche and V8 Supercar leagues but nothing like this confused The thing to remember is that any car which appears is not actually there and as long as you can see where you’re going drive on as normal tanknuts

As for these cars, Thruxton really doesn’t suit them, I had a quick go a Castle Combe last night and it’s so much better driving

Didn’t have any expectations for this race, I was way off the pace (and off the track banghead) in the week when I tried and way off the pace Sunday lunchtime, when I had a quick go with Tom.

I surprised myself in quail by managing a mid 1:11, still over a second off the pace though yikes

Got a very good start and started closing in on Tom after the first corner, then got on the grass as I was unsighted and dropped back a bit. Coming into the 3rd corner someone t-boned me, putting me in last place cry

I was thinking about calling it a day as I would never be able to catch anyone up, however exiting turn 5 I passed a couple of cars who had come together, I then passed Tom who I think was waiting for someone (due to the earlier collision?). I then managed to catch up and pass MJ (I think) putting me into 5th. For some reason everyone was lapping about my pace bounce then everyone in front fell off the road and I was 2nd behind GTR who bined it into the last Chicane and I was leading, I could not believe it!

I lead for about 10mins and then went to sleep banghead and slipped off at turn 1, allowing Adam to pass, who obviously had much more pace than me as he scampered into the distance. Then I binned it into the last chicane and Morph got passed, and I had a real race on my hands with GTR. I took the first corner quite aggressively boxedin and GTR slotted in behind me. I tried to chase down Morph and Andy for the last few laps but I was nowhere.

So a surprisingly entertaining race. thumbup

EDIT: Oh and congrats to Adam, you really were the class of the field, Pole, Fastest Race Lap and Won the Race bow

Also nice turnout smile Shame Mattygooner could find the server though.

Matt e-mail MJ and get the password and ip, like I said the PH server never shows up for me any more, so I have to search by IP every time.

I would have missed the first race if I hadn't have already had the IP stored from one of the previous leagues.

So Matt, get yourself sorted and get some practice at Combe, and we'll see you next weekend driving

Just had a quick go at Combe, Thruxton has given me a new found respect for grip hehe

54.84 so far, just a couple of corners to tidy up.

Hopefully I'll stay on the track more next week, haha.

Cheers
Tom

Hmm... which Castle Combe track are we running? I'm looking at 1:04 (very untidy) but given a 10 sec/lap difference I presume we're using different layouts. I hope so, anyway.

Yeah, just had a look, on all the map overviews they appear the same, are we using the one with the chicanes? 2005 version? My time was for the 2007 track.

Cheers
Tom

ETA: Just had a quick go on the 2005 one and am getting 1:02 - 1:04 so that seems like the same track as you Adam?

Not sure, I'm on now, still on Thruxton.

ETA: Waited 30 mins, off to watch Masterchef, then bed. Have an interview in the morning so too late to start a race now.
