I'd like to give the Vault a go. I've not done it before so I'm unlikely to be much help to begin with. I have a level 27 warlock I've been trying to level up and the farming is getting a little tedious so I'd like to try something else. I'm on most nights between 8 and 10pm. PSN is EECCTimH.
So the patch didn't properly fix the annoying Cryptarch then - got a few green engrams whilst levelling my Titan character and I'd say 10% decoded down to white crappy gear. That was what the recent patch was supposed to fix!
On the flip side, one of the greens decoded UP to a blue, although that's the first time that's happened with either of my characters in gawd knows how many hours of gameplay
Found this link in the Destiny XBone thread, about sums it up for me:

The fix was only supposed to stop you getting blues from legendary (purple) engrams, nothing was mentioned about the green engrams. Yep fair enough - I've re-read the patch notes and it only talks about purple and blue engrams decoding to those levels or better. I see also that there is a hot fix rolling out today that changes a few things like auto rifle damage and nerfing a couple of weapons (Vex Mythoclast & Pocket Infinity) but as those are both exotics, I doubt I'll ever see them in any case. Thanks to Youngsyr and EECCTimH for dragging me through that weekly heroic tonight. Clearly I had no business being there. What level was it set to? I'd been struggling with the level 22 one myself and with a friend so thought I'd join in... There's no way that was the same mission! I was getting 1-shotted by everything and couldn't help much - but you've basically got me my exotic shotgun so thankyou!

No worries - even at level 28 two hits would kill me. Seems my armour is made out of cheese!I've tried that mission at level 28 (the level we did it at) on my own and it's nigh on impossible - no matter how careful you are, there's always one sneaky enemy who gets behind you and insta-kills you before you can react - so it helps massively to have other people on the fireteam.
It was set to the hardest level as I'm in need of coins to buy exotic gear that I can destroy to get ascendant shards to upgrade my other gear. I'd actually say it was Youngsyr saving both of us lol, I honestly didn't think it would so hard being only one level below the difficulty setting. Had a massive sigh of relief when we finally finished it
I was stuck in a tricky position: I'm pretty handy with my arc fusion rifle - countless kills on crucible with the thing - and could strip away the shields from enemies pretty quickly to allow you guys to mop them up, but I could rarely get close enough to use it without being dropped. Whereas, if I kept my distance and stuck on a sniper, it was taking at least 3 headshots just to take out the sniping vandals and I would quickly run out of ammo. So instead I just had to bang away with my autorifle at about 30dmg a shot which couldn't have been too helpful. I got a good few shots in at the end boss right at the start of the fight, but couldn't even cross the doorway after that.
Even at lvl 22 it was too tough - my friend and I usually have a "jump in up close, blast/punch/stab then detonate something and jump away to pick off leftovers" play-style. The lightswitch modifier just makes that so hard which meant we were having to respec on the fly quite alot, and failing. So thanks again! I got an awesome purple fusion rifle and a better blue autorifle than the one I'm using, plus 9 strange coins as rewards, which along with the ones I had should now see me able to buy something exotic this weekend. And I just need to buy a bunch of ammo packs to complete the Invective shotgun quest too so.... pretty chuffed!

The quickest/easiest way to get ascendant shards (I've found anyway) is to complete public events with a gold rating. The first public event completed each day will be rewarded with an AS. These are pretty easy to complete solo, particularly on the moon and the times are, what?, every 15/30 minutes?!Up for some raiding and should be on tonight. I tried this with some mates at level 26 and got battered.
Desperately trying to earn some ascendant shards to level up my armour so I did the daily heroic on level 28 last night. It was a bit challenging as I am only level 26 but definitely doable on your own.
However the weekly strike at level 28 was pretty much impossible to do solo. I was doing plenty enough damage with my legendary weapons but kept getting one shotted by the sneaky invisible Vanguards, looks like level 26 armour just isn't up to scratch!
I also jumped into the VoG on my own for a laugh. Caught the gist of the first section pretty quickly and was able to hold down two of the portals on my own but obviously that isn't enough .
Doesn't seem too hard, well the first bit at least but it just looks like it needs a bit of co-ordination so anyone up for doing weekly strikes at level 28 or giving VoG a go then please feel free to friend me up, my PSN is The_Guvernator. I am usually on most evenings after 8pm.

Let's see your Guardians then folks. Fairly happy with mine at the moment, just want to level up some of my guns:
