I never thought of that. But it makes sense.
Just found a better way. Thieves guild in the ratways. Two guys rapidly shooting arrows, same deal but much quicker.

As a professional Software Engineer I'm finding it hard to contain my utter contempt for the risible, pathetic, shoddy and downright lackadaisical disregard for Good practise that Bethesda are showing.

Right now Skyrim is oscillating between v1.5.26.* and v1.5.24.* to the extent that SKSE have versions for both with the following info:

The 1.5.26.0 build keeps popping up as the official build and getting rolled back. For now we'll have both builds available.

Current release build (1.4.15, compatible with runtime 1.5.26.0 on 26 March 2012): http://skse.silverlock.org/download/skse_1_04_15.7...

Current release build (1.4.14, compatible with runtime 1.5.24.0): http://skse.silverlock.org/download/skse_1_04_14.7...
FFS Bethesda - there's only one thing worse than allowing a crappy patch to escape (I hesitate to use the word "release") and that's having one so lame you not only have to do another one two days later but then roll it back.

I mean, Jesus Christ... have you guys never heard of beta testing? Or Quality Assurance? Or Regression Testing? Or, you know, any of the things that those of us who write software for a living are used to doing in Business?

Just.... gobsmacked. banghead

I've got steam firewalled just in case I accidentally start it up for something else and it updates. Still 1.4.27 here and here it's staying for now. It works as it is for me.

I've just bought Skyrim...is there any way to avoid it downloading the patches that have borked the game in the installation process?

Why the F**K to people keep giving me heavy weapons as "rewards" for tasks meaning I am then "too fat to run" !! I seem to go through potions of strenght for that......

Ok, I am the leader of the thieves guild, I am a nightingale, I am a companion (leader of course). I am quite a busy bunny...

My latest recommendations.

Running FXAA Post Process Injector with:

Ultra realistic world lighting - not as dark as Real World Lighting indoors.

and the Imaginator full control over lighting, contrast and colour in game, either manually or using presets. In game as a spell, cast spell and your helper appears and the menu options to change things.

Anybody else seen the Macho Dragon mod?

Immature, pointless, but hilarious.

Does anyone know what the current patch situation is, is it still dodgy v1.5.x with the newer patch fixing the problems still as Beta or has there been a proper update?

Do you actually need waterbreathing? I have been lugging around potions of waterbreathing but so far never found the need to use them. Is there some flooded cave that I have not encountered yet?

Yes, there are a few. The Volsung mask gives you waterbreathing though, and also Fortify Barter, so I tend to carry that instead of waterbreathing potions.

Mine auto-patched back up to 1.5.26.* again last night.

There is a couple if I remember correctly it might be possible to survive without though, but it's also useful if you are diving flooded caverns down to chests at the bottom or picking up other goodies dropped into deep water. You can also hide underwater or sneak underwater.

I've drowned a couple of times with a particular quest but apart from that I appear able to swim quite well underwater without drowning - even got to unlock a check from a sunken boat...
