have played Battlefield 1 to death, and am fancying something a bit longer lasting (i dont play online multi player)
given the latest "Mafia" game or GTA5 whats your choice? have enjoyed both games previously in various versions, looking for something to hold my attention a few weeks/months as a solo player.
Mafia has a fantastic story with a multiple path ending that is just epic BUT my god it is let down by the actual gameplay. Every single encounter is so predictable and easy to complete. The lack of interaction with npc's etc. You play GTA and everything responds to every action you take.given the latest "Mafia" game or GTA5 whats your choice? have enjoyed both games previously in various versions, looking for something to hold my attention a few weeks/months as a solo player.
GTA5 is the benchmark, you can see the budget difference BUT don't let that sugget Mafia is a bad game as it isn't. I loved it, thoroughly enjoyed it but wont replay it. GTA5 is a come back to game
i'm already loving Trevor, the first shootout at the meth lab was mental, as was the redneck challenge, and i'm enjoying the use of a grenade launcher generally just destroying things and shooting "critters".
hes got money to burn too, so i'm buying shares and property which adds another dimension, and have a massive armoury already which makes life easier :-)

you will love his later missions, I found I empathised with him so much I adjusted my swagger and language for a period of time!hes got money to burn too, so i'm buying shares and property which adds another dimension, and have a massive armoury already which makes life easier :-)
After 3 years since last playing it (well almost) and this thread, I fired it up again. Quite simply the best massive game out there. Trevor is an inspiration, as you say love it when you get back to him only to find yourself lying on a beach with a load of dead bikers around and a speed boat drifting off. Oh and the teddy bear sex!

It's fabulous :-)
50% complete but having a rest from missions and just doing daft stuff tbh. Won the speedboat races, done most of the flying training , currently enjoying the weapon drop and flying side missions plus rampages :-)
had to restart it a few years ago after one of the lester missions, I invested all my cash in stock and the game bugged out and lost all my investment. 50% complete but having a rest from missions and just doing daft stuff tbh. When playing Franklin, you will get missions from lester, listen to his tips on who to invest money with.
when buying your first stock, buy one stock only. It may be lost. Then buy all the stock you can so you can sell after completing a mission.
Just got all the way through to the big heist, wont tell you where we are robbing as it will spoil it
I cannot begin to compare this to Mafia. Mafia is a great story but the game mechanics lack. In GTA you piss a car driver off they have different insults and different reactions. In mafia there is no interaction. In GTA you can talk to passers by, in Mafia there is no interaction. In GTA you walk up to a ladder and you climb, in Mafia (from memory) you have to press a button.
Each GTA mission is so varied you cannot follow a similar routine. In Mafia it is the same routine every single mission. That said Mafia is beautiful and has a story that is so gripping and an ending that you wont expect!
My only tip for GTA, don't kill trevor at the end.

Why? I did and can't remember any negatives? When playing Franklin, you will get missions from lester, listen to his tips on who to invest money with.

I'm late to the GTA V party (PC, £20 on Steam in the Christmas sale). It plays surprisingly smoothly on my GTX670, although having an i7-4790K kinda helps. Not sure if it has been mentioned in any of the GTA threads, but has anyone seen the actor who does the voice and mo-cap for Trevor? A guy called Steven Ogg, who, with that name, could easily be Nanny Ogg's offspring. He is certainly big enough. I'm used to voice-over artists looking only vaguely like the character they voice, so I wasn't ready for this:

you should see him in Better Call Saul (pretty much plays Trevor... "what ya packin' ?") and Westworld (pretty much plays a robotic wild west style trevor) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glmZH6uEyVg
he's also in something else i can't remember... walking dead perhaps...
