What controller are people using? I'm on PC so just using keyboard, but it's binary input so maybe I'm missing some of the subtlety of the game mechanics.
I'm using an Xbox One controller on mine.

BTW, if you need to stop quickly, then use the handbrake (it's mapped to RB on the Xbox One controller - may not be as quick on a keyboard), as it stops almost immediately (and saved me going over a cliff when I was in first-person mode).

I can't remember what trucks I used early on as I hadn't seen the hints about selling everything to buy something bigger/better at that time, and by the time I did, I already had a fair bit of cash and vehicles were not hard to come by. New finds are getting more sparse now, but I don't really need new trucks as I can't choose over the ones I've got (unless the task specifically requires a heavy crane, or low-loader, or 5-slot trailer.

The Khan (DLC content) was good as a scout vehicle for a while and I opened up most of the first & second maps with that (finding the Obs Posts, doing the peak challenges, and barrel rolling games).

I'm really liking the look of this, but I'm not sure if it looks that good on Xbox One. I actually fancy a gaming PC at some point, might even get a wheel and some pedals, but pricing it up and it's very expensive stuff!
I play on PC on an ultrawide monitor (3440x1440 resolution). This game max's my 2080Ti nearly 100% of the time, though it does look beautiful.

Mine's running in High on an iMac (under W10 on Bootcamp) at 3360x1890 but with a basic Vega card and it's running between 30-40 fps. It goes down to 30fps if I go Ultra - but get 50fps on Ultra if I go down to 2560x1440 (which is fine on a 21.5" screen).

If I go up to Ultra at native resolution (4096x2304) it becomes choppy (i.e. less than 20fps).

Mine hovers around the 70-80 FPS range for the most part. It does sometime dip to 55-60 FPS at really intensive bits.

Either way, still satisfactory.

Once you get the Hummer (and, more so, fully upgraded) it's all you need for a Scout vehicle - especially with the tyres it comes equipped with. I started using the Marshall but it's a bit OP, so stuck with the Chevy pickup until I got the Hummer. Saying that, I've not tried the Yar87 yet.

I'm still rocking a Fleetstar 2070, in terms of keeping the early stuff you're given in the game going, and I'm level 11 I think. Looks good with offroad tyres. It's not all Russian 8x8s...yet!

I'm loving the "ugly green thing" which is the first of the offroad trucks. No yet unlocked the offroad tyres for it but even with alterains it can do pull most things up steep muddy hills.

Why do headlights not illuminate the roads when driving at night?

I'm trying to rescue the heavy truck stuck near the garage in Michigan. Got there in my off-road truck, I managed to tip it over in the water...
I get my scout truck from the garage, try to pull the off-road truck over, and promptly get the Scout truck stuck. Recover the off-road truck to the garage, pull the scout out, line up with the heavy truck, get stuck again...
This game is fun! I just need another truck spare so I can pull the others out!

I think this is a bug on the PS4.

I've just done that. Took me nearly an hour. Winch, move, winch, move. Looking on youtube I should have dragged it out backwards but I'd already failed once and it was stuck front forwards. Very satisfying, although I nearly got stuck on the muddy bit near the garage which might have been a rage quit moment after all that effort.

Only King of the Hill (and the barrel push, which is just too far from fuel) left on Michigan 1 which I've come back to after finding Alaska a bit soul destroying.

Unless I'm missing something in the later maps what is the point of any highway trucks at all? The maps I've seen so far they're totally pointless.

Top tip regarding fuel. Buy the $6000 fuel carrier trailer (It has 2000 litres of fuel) and park it at the opposite end of the map so you can use it effectively as another petrol station. This has saved me so much time on the 2nd Michigan map.

Last night I could have rage smashed my controller with this. If I could, I would have reset everything I done last night to a point and try again.

I'm enjoying the game, but a bit frustrated with the mission system, specifically with some that you need to go to the "activation" point before carrying out the mission at a different location. A good example would be the first Michigan map with the stuck Scout truck at the farm. I'd managed to winch the Scout out of the field and drag it to the farm, but because I hadn't been right up to the flashing box the Scout was sat in (I couldn't get that close at the time) the game refused to accept that I'd done it.

In the end the Scout sat in the farm yard for quite a while until I'd unlocked enough upgrades to make my own Scout able to get to the now empty flashing box, activate the mission to make the game realise I'd done it.

That's a good tip, although there is a "free" fuel tanker on the first map, opposite the farm...

There are some tasks where it's a mix of road and rock/mud covered road, but I've managed to easily get through all with all-terrain or off-road tyres (i.e. I haven't had to go back to the garage to swap tyres or truck to get through).

The penalty for not having mud/off-road tyres is significantly higher than for not having highway tyres.

Although snow chains or mud tyres can be a bit slow to turn on highways (but they do let you drift).

Won't the highway trucks be better for long distance stuff? I've not had to do much of that yet, so I don't know what to expect!

I've not come across much/any long-distance stuff that is 100% highway (there's not a lot of highway at all in fact), so you end up with a fully-loaded truck on highway tyres that gets stuck every time you come to a bit of mud/water/rock (or diversion) on the route.

At least will all-terrain you can do the whole trip on the same tyres (unless you come to something steep and slippy with a full load on.

I meant I imagined the highway trucks would have better gearboxes and engines for long trips, so with all terrain tyres it may have been beneficial.

Ground clearance soon becomes a problem, or the limiting factor on highway trucks. That a diff lock. I'd love to put a 4070A to better use, but the offroad trucks are better in every way.

Sorry, yes there is a Highway gearbox you can find in Alaska, but I've not used it as I'm not sure I want to limit my mostly off-road vehicles/tasks to a gearbox that won't get me out of mud.

Top speed I've seen in a standard gearbox is 60kph (on the speedo in 1st person view).
