What a load of twoddle. You've stated YOUR opinion. Type in 'GT5 Review' into Google. The general concensus is that it's an excellent game, with a few minor flaws. Most of the reviews are above 8/10, which is excellent. Many of them are 9.5/10.
imho most of the haters have not even played it
I'm enjoying it but the AI is shockingly bad. Cars will ram you and instead of backing out to avoid just pushing you down the road they just keep flooring it. Then they'll brake mid way through a corner for no reason. It's like Sato is driving everything!
Forza AI is very good and although I'm impressed with how detailed the tail lights of a Lambo can be, it makes zero difference when you're actually racing.
It's like they've built a house with the most perfect bricks without ever seeing what the whole house should look like.
Updates please!
PS - I won the signature edition at the midnight raffle (free entry!) at the local Game store so was rather chuffed at how many spotty chavs I upset with my poker face Had a grin on while I got back in the car though.

Your quite entitled to your opinion Dr Derek Doctors was making out that the GENERAL CONCENSUS was that it is dissapointing. That just isn't the case, the general concensus is that the game is very good.
Have to say i agree with most of the people here, it wasn't as good as the hype surrounding it.
It's a great game that i'll be playing for a longgggg time to come. But theres far too many shortcuts been taken, the games been in the making for nearly 6 years, but theres only a handful of "premium" cars that are highly detailed, fully modifiable (sp?) etc and the rest are just gt4 imports that have been slightly smoothed, wheels cant be changed, certain performance mods like the carbon bonnets can't be applied to them.
And the AI is still the same on rails crap as before. But i still enjoy the whole racing experience of it.
IGN summed it up perfectly imo, its a 10/10 racing sim in a 5/10 game.

the most boring game in the world! and as for the cars, great selection a million skylines/GTR's etc that are all the bloody same just different paint jobs and spoilers.... they all drive the same as well, as for the tracks, not much range and so many reverse tracks and long and short versions of the same track....
This franchise reached its peak with GT3, since then its all been downhill i'm afraid its crap, dont waste your money like i did. Actually does anyone wanna buy a copy? LOL
I'll buy it off you if it means you can then afford to replace that dummy you spat. This franchise reached its peak with GT3, since then its all been downhill i'm afraid its crap, dont waste your money like i did. Actually does anyone wanna buy a copy? LOL
some people have always slated the GT series, and thats fine, its obviously not what they're looking for in a game, but why do they come back with negative comments after every release. pointless. If your looking for a new game why play the fifth in a series - isnt it obvious it'll be the same format with improvements !?

ive got GT5 and although its early days im loving it, its everything the earlier versions were plus more, and with better graphics. Also, as stated in the article more updates are on their way to improve it further. big thumbs up from me
I thought I was the only one on this thread that liked it Edited by andyp74199 on Thursday 25th November 14:27
GT5, like a lot of cars, has really split general opinion.
You've got diehard fans who would still love it even if the only car available was a Saxo, the Forza 3 fans who hate it just because, then casual people who notice that some cars have good models, some don't, so it's 'rushed' (5 years in development, rushed!), and so on.
I find it really hard to know what to say to someone who asks me for my recommendation because of the reception it's had, but I love it, I just wish my PS3 hadn't died last night just after I'd hit level 8!

Unfortunately I'm having to wait until Christmas. My wife always bemoans me buying things like this so close to Christmas as "I'm so difficult to buy for"
For those that have had GT1,2,3,4 and Prologue what are your thoughts?
I utterly loved GT but wasn't that impressed by Prologue. It looked beautiful, but so did the others at the time, but it felt to sterile. I wasn't that taken by the car list for GT5 either - not a huge leap forward in variety from the previous versions.
But what does it play like?
Is it just Prologue with more tracks and cars plus the Gran Turismo mode? If so I've a horrible feeling I'm going to be some what deflated.
Let me give you an example: One of the A licence tests- focus rally car, gravel track. For those that have had GT1,2,3,4 and Prologue what are your thoughts?

Uphill start, gentle right, onto a flatter straight, and into a tight right hander.
Buzzer beeps, so foot hits the floor. Cue massive wheel spin and bouncing off the limiter. Acceleration seems sluggishly slow.
Crest the rise, car shifts to third, and the speed builds. I realise I'm a bit too far right for the upcoming bend, so lightly roll the wheel- which doesn't move...
Apply a bit more pressure, and the feedback clearly indicates the car climbing out of a rut, and the steering lightens slightly.
Hit the brake pedal, force the wheel one way then the other to get the back end sliding - feel the steering go light, roll past the centre point, and progressively add some lock.
see the exit, pound the accelerator, and wind off the lock as I hit the finish line.
Take a breath, see that I've hit gold. Swear, a mix of tension release and disbelief.
Hit start to have another go...

Expectations were of a 10/10 game that moved the racing genre forward and made all other racers obsolete. This just isn't the case.
Having played and loved every GT game in the series I am personally very disappointed in GT5 at the moment after my limited amount of play time. Hopefully the AI, damage will improve as I level up and the game gets patched.
Metacritic shows the aggregated score as 86% last time I checked.

Indeed, I considered myself a diehard GT gamer, having played every version since the first way back in 1998. I moved onto Forza simply because there was no sign of Gt5 for so many years and in that time games have moved on a lot. PD have been in a bubble for too long and GT5 feels dated to me now . . and I just cant forgive them for leaving out Seattle, Midfield and the F355 lol

Looking at it subjectively though, it's a bit of a disappointment as a game, 80% of the cars are ported from the old games with a minor spit and polish, the multiplayer is typical of your average Japanese developer, i.e. miles behind what the western developers have been doing and what we've come to expect. Then there's the whole front end and menu system which from all reports is awful. Plus the 'career' is as stale as it has been since the first game, only the new special events bringing something different to the table.
That said, there is a fantastic physics engine in there and once you get into the meat of the driving it's a total joy. So naturally on a car-enthusiasts forum like this it's exactly what people are after.
For people that want a game rather than a toybox of cars that provide a simulation of driving, it's a long way behind what we've come to expect in the last few years and that's why the reviews reflect that.
It's true you have to accept this is a drivers game, not a racers game. If you want racing, buy F1 2010.
I like GT5, but ironically it does seem a bit rushed and the menus are terribly slow to navigate, even after doing a full install. The process of going through licenses and races is a little odd too, never knowing what to choose or telling you which car you need to jump into for a specific race; also that you need to create a driver for the B-spec races, which is odd, as I'm a driver for the A-spec ones!
The biggest disappointment, though of no surprise is the poor attempt at AI; tramline cars, all in a row, and that damn rubber band affect that has all your opponents suddenly on your ass again despite giving it all. For decent AI on the PS3, buy GRID, especially for the damage too
The graphics are good, take a Zonda round one of the city tracks and you'll see, especially on replay, but the sound, oh geez the sound is baaaaad. The terrible thud noise when you hit another car, regardless of how light or hard...I suspect that sound affect came from every consumer of the GT francise hitting their head on the desk for the past 2 years.
The game also doesn't have LAN multiplayer, so forget getting a group of your togeather for a night of battles. I'm however going to a mates with 4 of us to play over the net; fortunately he has fibre optic so the connection should hold up...we hope (otherwise it will be back to GRID).
Good game other than that, still special, but not as special as it could have been!
