You know what I'd like to see now? Big attacks on my settlements.
yes
The "defend the castle" missions were fun. After the institute attack on the castle, which was genuinely challenging, I turned it into a fortress! The whole thing was walled in with defences everywhere.
Then the super-mutant attack... Behemoths and legendaries everywhere... my defences held up well and it was a fun battle! I couldn't wait to see what's coming next....

... nothing. coffee

Yes i definately wished i had used the suit sooner rather than level 30 and having 25-30 cores! Cant use them fast enough now! I think i will have to track down the legs of the X-01 suit though to finish it off.....
I don't use power armour much, as I run out of aluminium repairing the thing all the time. I should probably learn to dodge...
Arturo or whatever in Diamond city (weapons and ammo) sells shipments of 50 aluminimum for a 2000 ish caps, i hardly ever used caps in the game and ended it with 15k plus.

You can buy the aluminim from him and sell some old guns and such so they end up not costing you anything

- Completed the single player last night at level 43 ish, went with the insitutue... taking out the BoS was pretty tough but glad i had a decent set of power armour on me and a fatboy/missle launcher with plenty of ammo!

I had done all the side quests i wanted so sent it back to the rental company.... i've had it for just short of a month

Oh I do. And the vendor in covenant sells it as well. And I pick up everything that contains it.
With multiple suits of power armour plus robot construction, I'm still out of it all the time. And that feels like *work*.
I built an eyebot and told it to scavenge for Au. I was most annoyed when I discovered I had to go an get it....

A good place for aluminium is the Fish Packing plant on the East of the map. Loads and loads of aluminium trays lying around, and they respawn a few times too.

everyone in Covenant turned on me and now they are all dead.

The vendor in DC thinks im a synth and wont serve me! frown

Il check out the fish market for ally.

Ive made 2 robots, 'Bolt' is my hard hitter, Asultron-esce, il take him with me to wipe everything out in a certain location, Il then return with 'Jebadiah' who has a huge carry capacity and I clean up all the loot! smile Takes a little longer, but its worth it for the loot/caps!

Doesn't seem to work for me. The menu option is there - it says to press E to pickpocket and Mouse4 (which is my keybinding for reload / holster weapon) to hack. When I press E nothing happens, and when I press Mouse4 to hack, it holsters my weapon. frown
I had that - sometimes i had to try several times on the same robot before it actually worked and it brought up my pipboy screen to do the hacking. Thought maybe the robot moving caused it to go funny.

Its worth having the second hack level ("Incite") which sends the robot loopy and it attacks the other enemy robots. Found that very helpful at the end of the DLC....

Yes. That happens as part of a side quest. However, it is possible to turn it into your own settlement and re-populate it. Unfortunately, it's a pretty crap settlement as so much of it is still set to owned (ie. not usable), including all the turrets. I had to resort to the PC console to delete the existing turrets to make room for my own, and also set all the owned beds and items to non-owned.

Im on PS4 - i might just turn it to my 'companion go here' settlement. Castle is getting over populated.

Sounds like you'd enjoy strong back level 4. Unlimited carry capacity and fast travel when overencumbered. Saves a lot of time trying to figure out what to take and what to leave... Just pick up everything and sort through it/scrap it when you're back home.

Not much space to build extra beds, unless you build a platform around the big tree or have them sleeping outside at Covenant.

I'd use Secretary Island as the dumping ground.

If you are on a PC this is useful for Covenant.
Scrap the beds and turrets - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9986/?
Expand the build area - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9850/?

I just found a free XP glitch in the game using the Automatron DLC

I switched heads on my robot, between 'no head armour' and 'ahabs' helm'. Grants 26xp each time. I went up half a level in about 3 mins.
Further to this

you end up with an ahabs helm in your inventory each time, i can sell them for 68 caps each time! smile

Re Covenant

I killed everyone, destroyed all the turrets, then using the stairs placed small square floors against the outer wall near to the existing turrets and placed my turrets on them, obviously deleting the stairs after each one, the old turrets just sit there smouldering away.

Then cleared the downstairs of the back building completely and the building on the right. The two buildings on the left can't be cleared (on PS4), however there is enough room to construct a 2x2 floored building between them, I've made mine two story and left a gap to climb out onto the roof of the other building if needed.

You're right! I just gave it a go. After drawing and holstering my weapon about 3 or 4 times, and thinking it would never work, finally I got the Robco overlay and was able to hack. Looks like if the hack attempt is unsuccessful then it holsters the weapon. It seems a rather crap UI and yet another example of the "lowest common denominator" of consoles' game pads hamstringing the PC version.

Hmmm not much there worth having, though I like the look of the walls with window frames.

It's only a fiver, so I'm not too worried. the next one (Far Harbour) is the biggest of this set of DLC.

I quite like how the Mechanist turned out to be a woman who was just lonely and thought she was doing good though
It was well telegraphed from fairly early on that the Mechanist was misguided (the robobrain you encounter spelled it out in words of one syllable, in fact) and it was fairly obvious to conclude that it would be an option to talk things into a peaceful resolution.

I did start to find it rather a grind to get to that point, though, and it became somewhat tedious in the end. The final reveal of her gender was a nice touch, although I thought they rather overdid the personality transformation after she'd taken off her mask.

Interesting stuff above. I've finished the game, I never had to 'defend the castle' and I've never seen Covenant. I'm level 70 and 7 days in!

I might do another play through. This time I'll concentrate more on the things I neglected this time. I'll make sure that I put the Special points into places where I can very quickly get Local Leader, and the Scrapper perks (where you can break guns down into more useful component parts, and Tag specific components that highlight green when you see them). Would also be fun to do Mechanist earlier on and get robot companions.

This time through I played:

- stealthy
- no energy weapons
- no melee
- no power armour
- no companions
- never really used traders
- ended the game with over 100 fusion cores and 60-odd mini nukes!

So this time I'll try and do some opposites I guess.

I must say, my best advice for a new player would be to side with someone early in the game and see it through. I tried to stay friends with everyone for so long that I have buggered up playing it through again, because I've seen almost everything that each faction has to offer. Anyone else think the same?

I did the same, got as far as I could with each faction until I had to make a decision. I wanted to go with the Railroad but the quest was bugged because I was too friendly with the Institute. Apparently that's patched now so I might try Railroad again on next playthrough.
