You need Chromecast with Google TV for that, I have the 4K version on my main TV and prefer it to Firestick.

We have Chromecast with Google TV, great for telly but Stadia runs like an absolute dog through it, constant stuttering. Absolutely fine through my laptop sat in the same room.

Alas, Stadia is being "wound down" by Google. How will I play PUBG next year?

Well at least I’ll get a refund and keep the hardware.

Shame that, I enjoyed being able to play it anywhere.

Looks like I'm gonna have to fork out for a console now.

Shame, the tech works really well, I better finish the Cyberpunk play through.

Do I read correctly they are refunding ALL game purchases too? So essentially everything anyone spend ok the store Will be refunded except for the Pro subscriptions?

I hate to think how much $$$$$$$ Google have spent perfecting this technology only not to be able to commercialise it.

Xbox live is suppose to be quite good now isn't it?

As predicted by many it would seem.

Amazing that they are refunding all hardware and software purchases! Despite the lack of traction that must still add up to a huge amount.

I was given a free one via Google contacts at work, but even with my 70/18 connection it was unplayable over wifi. Never bothered to try a wired connection, but I can see how with a decent connection it was a good option for the casual gamer.

As it is a cheap series s with gamepass ultimate is still the better option.

Not necessarily, sadly its been clear Google haven't been able to make $$$ out of Stadia. Recently I downloaded Geforce Now and linked into my very old Steam account and had a bash at Left 4 Dead.

Just tries Destiny 2 over WiFi on the phone.....and you know what, it runs as well as Stadia. The login/load times are longer but game play us fab.

It's more expensive than Stadia £8/month versus free, but that's probably a good thing given Stadia was essentially a money pit for Google.

The only game I would want the saves to copy over is Cyberpunk. I also see Steam did a sale on Cyberpunk. Will wait for the next Steam sale to buy it, and if Google do refund me the £120 or so I've spent in total buying games on Stadia + the controller, happy days.

I guess that last bit is why Stadia couldn't carry on, running the hardware + software license needed for the tech cannot be cheap. I've completed Ghost Recon, Far Fry 5, F1 2020, AC Odyssey and put another 40hr into Cyberpunk so far so the cost of two/three Xbox games.

Does it support the cloud save functionality in 1,6 ? If so better set that so at the worse you can buy the game on another platform further down the line and carry on.

Just read the email. A bit gutted. Stadia got me back into gaming after a decade of not bothering. It's so quick to just play when I get a spare 30mins or so, which is difficult with kids, I can't stand the 'download the latest update' style that consoles have become and eats into time. My kids will also be gutted as they played a few games on there.

May have to treat them to a Switch for Christmas now.

Quite impressive they are refunding basically everything. I've put 100+hrs into cyberpunk and RDR2, hope I can get the save files somehow?

Should probably get on with Resident Evil Village too as I bought that but barely played it.

There were a few announcements over the past few weeks of new TVs supporting Stadia natively which is embarrassing for Google too. There will be a lot of gloating incoming. A shame as it worked well for me and loads of others, the tech is definitely there.

Thanks for the tip. Incredibly easy to activate cross save it seem. Hit R1 on a save file to get a link code to the developer website. Seems to work for Destiny 2 aswell.

Also appears you can download your whole Stadia save account, and manually move save files. Takeout.google.com

So only question left now is Xbox/PS play or GeForce now. Given only one of those services currently offer Cyberpunk via streaming it'll have to be GeForce now. Looks like getting a Navidia shield will let me run the game on the TV as well.

Will miss Stadia, but online streaming seems to be alive and well though. Just have to accept I'll have to put my hands in my pocket for the £8/month smile.

Just checking that you're aware how the shield works and that you need to own a copy of Cyberpunk on PC for it to stream it, so you'd need to factor that in.

Couldn't resist, Cyberpunk is £25 onsale on GOG (assuming Google will refund me the £49 I paid for Stadia version of the game), and the free version of GeForce had no wait time just.....2 versions of Cyberpunk running at the same time off a smartphone, technology is amazing these dayssmile.

Sadly despite saying 'cloud save', Stadia doesn't do it. But I do now have the sav.dat file so it's a case of working how/if its possible to manually upload to GOG/Geforce now

Playstation and XBox both have cloud gaming now - Playstation being the slightly better of the two in terms of performance (in my experience at least, as someone who own's both consoles, comparing on the same internet connection).

You can also leave consoles in "sleep" mode which allows updates to happen in the background, so you aren't completely without options.

Bit of a bummer the announced closure, especially in the middle of winter. Could they not have waited until the better weather in spring comes round!?

Not surprised they're closing it down. Most "proper" gamers will have a PC or console, i'd imagine most "casual" gamers won't bother subscribing and just play their game at 720p for free.

Any other way of playing a few games of Fifa per week without dropping a few hundred quid on a console!?

He's not been booted. He's gone to a new startup. This sort of stuff happens.
I get that but it's not exactly confidence inspiring and lets not discount Googles ability to just cut a service and give zero fks in the process.

I mean, https://killedbygoogle.com/ exists for a reason hehe
I am just popping my head in the thread to say: I told you so smile

Not a huge shocker, like some of their other efforts that are still going they have the technical expertise to build it but they don't manage to attract enough paying customers and they don't own enough of the technology underneath to be able to control their costs.

They're putting a brave face on and talking about alternative uses but I bet they're nursing some hefty operating losses and a big writedown on the platform.

Nvidia have struggled a lot too but at least they control the hardware side and a lot of the IP, plus they're always working to sell their solution to other people for whatever purposes they want it for. I hear it's a bit clunky but at least they have a plan to try to make money.
