I am enjoying this so far, up to level 6 now and making some decent headway through the second map, got the game on the second highest difficulty setting which is providing enough challenges.
I guess the easiest thing to compare it to is Skyrim and it is streets ahead in some respects but lacks behind in others. Personally I would like the option to play in first person as well as third person. Like Skyrim there are a lot of fetch quests but I have found these to be more varied with a slightly more compelling story arc. For me it plays out as a bit of a Skyrim, Diablo 3 & Game of Thrones hybrid with elements of all 3 present.
The combat is starting to become a touch repetitive with the dodge, get behind, power attack proving too much for most types of enemy. I am also starting to get a bit frustrated with the secondary quests which I am picking up. It has probably taken me north of 15 hours to get to level 6 but yet I have options to go and do quests which are recommended for anything between a level 16-33 character. Seems a bit pointless to me as it'll take ages to get to these, might have been better leveling them to the abilities of my character at the time like Skyrim.
Aside from the above the graphics are stunning and much more detailed than Skyrim, some of the NPC dialogue provides genuine Lol moments and the loot is varied and interesting.

But then you won't have anything to do later on in the game?Personally, I like that enemies aren't scaled to you for once.
One of my biggest gripes is the annoyance of going into the inventory every time to read a book. There should be a way to view an item when it's picked up rather than having to go through the pause menu.

I take your point but a slightly gentler level increase may help. Managed to really struggle through a Secondary Quest rated as a Level 10. Plus when you are free roaming about the map and come across a treasure stash guarded by a bunch of Level 16 enemies and have to run away it can be quite annoying. If you try to take them out you are into 3-4 strikes and you are dead (reloading takes ages too so makes this a bit of a chore). Didn't have these issues in the first map, things appeared to be better balanced. Personally, I like that enemies aren't scaled to you for once.

Agree on your point regarding the books, there should be a way to quickly read and discard so you don't fill your inventory up.
Still apart from that I am struggling to find fault with it.

I guess because the first map is small, it's supposed to be an introduction? It stops you just sweeping across the map doing every marker which isn't a bad thing imo.Agree on your point regarding the books, there should be a way to quickly read and discard so you don't fill your inventory up.

Yes, the loading times after death are horrible!
Also, for xbox one users, there's a very bad save glitch which you will only notice if you try to manually save and it doesn't let you. Otherwise you will only find out about it when you die and the game can't load as it's failed to save everything you've done before then the only way to load the game back up is to hard reset the console. So it's always worth checking you can manually save your game before playing a session.
I've been playing on the hardest difficulty which has proved a challenge at times, that first Griffin fight took me about 10 goes or more, still get duffed up by lower level enemies like a pack of wolves if I get complacent, but it's satisfying and still not as tricky as Bloodborne was. Totally absorbed in the world though and thoroughly addicted to the game as a whole. Got the hang of Gwent now and built a decent deck for the starting army, almost got to the stage where I've got enough cards in one of the other decks to start using that.

I'm just not feeling this game either... I've put a few hours in over the weekend and I'm at the point - SPOILER!!
Where the Baron digs up his fetus and it either turns into a botchling or ghostly type things appear.
I'm struggling a fair bit with this as I haven't leveled up much due to just ploughing through the main quest.
The main quest just seems a bit boring tbh. Just moving from yellow marker to yellow marker and performing silly tasks like ringing a bell and getting a goat to follow you. I will persist though.
Anyone else around this point in the game? Does it pick up?
Well I got stuck into some of the side quests last night and I am starting to enjoy it a bit more. Its definitely a grower so I am looking forward to how it turns out.Where the Baron digs up his fetus and it either turns into a botchling or ghostly type things appear.

As far as games go though (I know its a different genre but) its not a patch on Bloodbourne IMO.

Auto save is rubbish,
Keep finding I've done an hour or so of exploration and looting only to die having not saved!!! Arrrrgggh.
I then turn off out of frustration.
Won't take you long to get back now you know what monsters you'll be facing and what oil to uses! Keep finding I've done an hour or so of exploration and looting only to die having not saved!!! Arrrrgggh.

A simple quick save would be good.
Can't rely on the autosave, especially on the highest difficulty where a few drowners will often result in death. I've been treating it like an old fashioned adventure game and saving it every few minutes. The consoles aren't PCs though where a dedicated quick save button can be reserved, making the most out of the buttons available is tricky enough as it is.
