Well I can't hit jack at the moment.
I'm not the most accurate person at the best of times but unloading nigh on a full clip into someone only for them to kill me with two handgun shots is getting a bit silly
The way suppression and recoil work post patch means that if you don't get the first shot in and on target, you're in a losing situation even with a more powerful gun.I'm not the most accurate person at the best of times but unloading nigh on a full clip into someone only for them to kill me with two handgun shots is getting a bit silly
The most obvious effect of suppression on your aim is with a sniper rifle - if you're being suppressed it doesn't matter if you've got your crosshairs between their eyeballs - your shot won't hit the target.
My advice would be to try out a few different guns and attachments. G3A3 with heavy barrel on single shot works well for medium distance assault. Forget burst fire on any assault rifle - the recoil will send the third and successive bullets way over the enemy's head.
Always take a shotgun (not USAS unless you want to be called a noob and admin kicked) for CQB and if you're going as engineer, try to stay in a vehicle as I haven't found a carbine yet that cuts the mustard at anything other than close range.
For support, take the M249 with laser sight/extra mag and red dot scope - it's a beast.

I was finding this a fair bit since the patch- losing almost every 1-on-1 engagement I got into. As mentioned the LMGs with bipod are now rather effective. As for engineer I've gone to using the SG553. I couldn't get on with it at all before the patch, and now its probably my favourite carbine- accurate and with mininal recoil.I'm not the most accurate person at the best of times but unloading nigh on a full clip into someone only for them to kill me with two handgun shots is getting a bit silly
My favourite gun since the patch however, is most definately the SKS rifle- using this with just it's iron sights (no scopes), and no foregrip. It will ADS almost instantly with no scope fitted, it will fire rounds as fast as you can click the mouse/fire button, and to me appears to have no recoil what-so-ever meaning every successive shot you fire lands pretty much exactly where the first did.
The iron sights are that good that you can still kill no problem out to ranges of a few hundred meters, yet is effective right up to everything except extreme CQB. It's the first weapon I've found that allows me to win 1-on-1 shootouts most of the time. Getting headshots with it is fairly easy, and even with upper body shots will kill with 2-3 hits maximum. Superb weapon. It's like the old SVT-40 or Gewehr 43 from COD5 world at war!
The only downside is you can only have it with the recon kit which when SOFLAM-ing etc tends to keep you too far out of the action. For running around flag-capping etc it is brilliant.

There really is something hugely satisfying about taking down a helicopter or a plane with a tank shell. Last night I was in a tank all on my own on op firestorm. An attack helicopter was bothering our base spawn point - I drove out onto the road, turret facing away from the base towards the flag objectives. I switched into the CITV seat, locked onto the helicopter several times until he got annoyed and realised where the lock on was coming from. He headed my way, peppering the tank with rockets so I switched back to the turret seat and waited for him to fly over the top of the tank before releasing the shell straight into the belly of the chopper. It's moments like that which keep bringing me back to BF3 for more!
Had one of those once in a liftime moments last night, on Gulf of Oman I was happily sniping away from a second floor of the building opposite flag B, killing people at A, D and the odd sniper whilst keeping an eye on B.
Out of nowhere a Venom (transport heli) starts to land on top of the building at B, about 80 yds away at my level. So, as soon as he touched down, I nailed the pilot with a headshot. Then a passenger switched to the pilot's seat and got nailed by another headshot. Then another passenger switched to the pilot's seat and was dispatched just as quickly. Then a recon guy got out of the passenger door and started looking for me, for about a second before he took one between the eyes.
Four headshots in about 10 seconds, three of them on people inside a vehicle! I was grinning like a Cheshire cat, whilst waiting for someone else to spawn into the pilot's seat, but I think they got the message after that initial burst and left it well alone!
Also got my first headshot on an attack helicopter a little later on the same map - he decided to land it for God knows what reason about 180 yds away directly in front of me.

Prior to BF3, I've never been a fan of CQB in games. The current CQB maps are awesome in my mind, thus looks even better.Battlefield 3: Close Quarters Donya Fortress Gameplay Trailer

Can see from the trailers that magazine size would appear to be a key consideration...

And leading on from an earlier post I've just unlocked the M240B - is it better than the standard or shall I just stick to my IAR/RPK combo.
Had a couple of fun games last night on random servers until on a 300% server 30 kills from the end I jumped into the C-ram, slagged 2 planes and got kicked! (Didn't say that in the intro text!!!)
I can see a PH xbox donation coming as I've got next week off
I've been playing this a lot lately. Still a lowly *** Sargent though. What really put me off though is the tts (i presume kids or teenagers who have their mike on and are broadcasting their domestic environment to everyone else.
Anyway question to the knowledgeable. Is there any way to get some practice in flying the helicopters without wasting a session in a squad.

M98B, 12x scope and bolt action reload. It's much easier to shoot on target with the bipod, but the bolt action makes follow up shots much quicker if you don't nail them in the head the first time and unless you're shooting over 500m at stationary targets, I find it's easy enough to do them handheld.
Don't forget to hide out of the way and use the MAV to spot your targets and go prone in a hard to identify position after you make a kill to reduce the chance of you being located via kill cam.
Another tip is to avoid obvious sniper spots (cranes, tops of buildings, etc.) if you can, as they're the first place an enemy sniper will check and you'll stand out like a sore thumb. Better to be in a building, amongst rocks, hiding under trees etc.
Even managed to put a couple of headshots on Pexy tonight.
