I didn't enjoy BF2 so much, but 1942 + Road to Rome + Secret Weapons I spent more time on than BF3 & BF4 combined.Not to mention the "Forgotten Hope" mod for 1942 which took the original game and then added in just about every single weapon/vehicle/location ever encountered in WW2!
Also spent a LOT of time on the "Desert Combat" mod for 1942 - a modern Battlefield setting built on the 1942 mechanics. It was superb, and I'm pretty certain marked the first appearance of helicopters (ignoring the AutoGyro from Secret Weapons) to the Battlefield series.
Dessert Combat also had the first appearance of the AC-130 too. Only this time it wasn't an aerial spawn, it spawned on the ground at the base. I seem to remember being able to drive a jeep in the back of it before it took off, which allowed for some hilarious gameplay!
The best way to sum it up was as a modern Battlefield without any of the vehicle gameplay mechanic restrictions that the newer games have. The graphics were dated and the gun-play wasn't anywhere near the newer games, but for vehicle-based combat it was the pinnacle of the Battlefield games for me.
Oh and massive-scale AI-bot support too

Yes on xbox one it allows you to download pretty much the entire game bar a few MB which are released at midnight to complete the install

I have however heard very good things about the previous titles and I'm still hoping for a remake of 2142 at some point as it sounds right up my street.

21422 is a superb game! I spent a lot of time having fun in that game.
I'm on for getting BF1 & the new Civs game around the same time!

The beta gave me that good BF feeling again so I'd say yes definitely. It still remains to be seen whether it has the longevity though. BF3 was good but worse than BC2 and BF4 I didn't really get on with and got bored pretty quickly for some reason. I'm hoping this is a return to old BF form.thetapeworm said:

want to know myself. Watched some gameplay vids on youtube and very excited for it now. Seen a post on the EA BF forums suggesting the tanks have been nerfed a fair bit so are not OP as per the beta. I haven't been excited for a BF game since 2142 and BF3 believe it or not and Even went and picked it up in full desert camo fatigues! Instant awkwardness and felt like a complete tit though when the queue was round the block and I was being stared at from afar by 2 RMP's and a civvie copper

I thought the balance was pretty good in the the Beta.

^^^ This tbh, I know they have to try to balance the game but sometimes it just makes it unrealistic. I thought the tanks guns where pretty crap in the beta anyway and it's only with a full squad on board where they become really dangerous but if you see a tank come over the hill firing in all directions, it should be an oh sI thought the balance was pretty good in the the Beta.
t moment anyway, not an I'll just run up to it and nonchalantly plant it full of explosives. The nerfing has already started.
