I just use re-chargable batteries and have done since the Xbox 360. I went through about 5 360 play and charge kits so gave up on them, but apparently the Xbox One ones are much better quality. Another issue is that they cause the Turtle Beach headsets to buzz when you talk if you've got your controller plugged in charging.

I'd take AA (or AAA) batteries - using rechargeables - over an internal pack every day of the week too. If the batteries go flat you can have an immediate full charge in less than a minute and keep using it wirelessly, rather than having to hang the joypad off of a cable for a couple of hours while it recharges.
Also, as rechargeable batteries will lose capacity over time and with repeated charges, at some point the internal pack will be useless at holding a charge and you are going to have to do some potentially tricky work to replace it.
My old DualShock 3 and Sixaxis controllers are pretty feeble now for keeping charged and I don't relish prying them apart to replace the internal packs.

Agreed. Batteries are much better than making your wireless controller not wireless. Also, as rechargeable batteries will lose capacity over time and with repeated charges, at some point the internal pack will be useless at holding a charge and you are going to have to do some potentially tricky work to replace it.

Wireless controllers were one of the biggest improvements ever, for console gaming IMO. I didn't realise how good they were until I picked up a Logitech Wireless Gamepad for my OG Xbox. I just wouldn't go back to a wired controller and there aren't many USB cables out there which would even be suitable to use as a wired connection to my console(s).One of the big selling points of the OG Xbox was that the controllers had a decent cable length and would detach if you tripped on them, IIRC. Even if you are happy with wired, standard USB cables are not really suitable.

Interesting, the Series Xs appear to be changing hands for 650-700 on ebay.
£250 ..... Pay for my Lego Ecto 1 and then some
I’ve got the version 1, it’s not had a lot of use and just like all my other Xbox controllers it bloody drifts
I wouldn’t buy one again, mines only about 18 months old.
I can’t be arsed to strip them and change the pot, but I’ve got 4 or 5 controllers now sat in my draw waiting for attention.

Put all 4-5 on eBay let someone else fix them up. I wouldn’t buy one again, mines only about 18 months old.

Cash in and get a new controller for free instead.
Set my alarm for 7:30 to be ready for the 8am release. Just happened to refresh Asda and managed to buy one from them coming Thursday.
Thanks also those who posted the tips re upgrading Live to Ultimate - have just sorted 36 months worth for myself. Now the countdown to Thursday (Hopefully!)
