Not calling you out on this Steve...I'm sure I saw it mentioned (and shown) on one of the many Youtube vids posted that you can come across other players in a free drive/roam scenario and challenge them to a race!
It would be cool if you can, guess we've only got a couple of weeks until we find out for sure.

I'm pretty sure what you saw was the player challenging one of the AI festival drivers. The multiplayer is like Forza 4, the people that are in it are the ones from the lobby (from what I've heard) not sure if you can then challenge them though that could be good.

So, this then.

It's basically turned into Generic Racer #24, complete with "street" branding, in car voice telling you how amazing your race was, pointless open world driving bits to get between generic race on uninspiring track #67 followed by generic challenge on uninspiring track #89 etc...
However, the handling when you are racing still feels mostly like proper Forza, so it is a step above the others due to that.

It's certainly not a day 1 purchase for me.

Watched a video with Greenwalt taking about this very subject last week, the multiplayer is completely separate from the single player and you will NOT see any human drivers while in free drive. He explained this as based on feedback from players based on "other games that had this function" you would often see someone and by the time you tried to challenge them they were gone, which was annoying. He also said it was annoying when you were just playing your own single player game only to be pestered by people who want to ram you because you wont race etc (not that the AI wont do this anyway). I actually agree with him, often I just wanna play and don't want to be pestered or annoyed by bored players.

You can obviously start an 8 player "free drive" lobby for cruising on the entire map (I'm thinking lots of cops and gumball paint jobs wink ) but as stated above to do this you must actually start a multiplayer lobby and invite another 7 players to join you.

PS. He also addressed Porsche in the same video and hesitated before being very specific with his wording:-

"The car list as you see it now does not include Porsche"

I predict another "Porsche expansion" pack at some point wink

Dreadful really, glad I didn't pre-order

Handling seems mediocre at best, granted I didn't expect Forza 3/4 handling, but something better than nothing, nothing, nothign, slidefacing wrong way.

Music got turned off straight away, I was expecting some tt of Radio 1 to start talking after the songs about how "great" that song was

Patronising commentators "you're so great, wow you won the first race in your Horizon event, amazing!!!!111oneonetwofour!!questionmark!!"

AI are stupid

You can't damage AI cars, I smashed into a Camaro at silly speeds, my car got cosmetic damage, Camaro looked like it had rolled of production line.

Drift points? What the fk is that? PGR4? NFS?

It is like TDU, maybe a TDU that works, but TDU was better, I would still fire TDU up if it hadn't deleted my saved game.

Graphics wise it is spot on, just it is let down by everything else

Dont take this as a rant at you.

I think you (and others) missing the point though. The whole idea for this game is to drive about aimlessly in great cars with your mates. The races and scene thing are the pointless bits IMO.

Having said that I used to love it in TDU when you bought the houses and used to park your cars around in the garage.

I generally dont play single player games on any of my consoles bar skyrim/fable. I find forza single player tedious and only play online with the PH crew. Im really looking forward to it.

For the single player it'll never replace the track racing of FM4. It'll always be better.

Gents,

Looking to pre-order, generally I go with shopto due to the cheapo price and good delivery in the past, but you only get a VW Golf as bonus DLC which I'm not interested in.

Any other good suppliers, preferably with a 'better' bonus car?

Thanks in advance.

And the remix of the chemical bros song is nowhere near as good as the original.

See that's the thing, all they needed to do, was remake TDU and polish it up so it works, everything about TDU was amazing, well apart from the actual engine was a pile of st and was buggy as fk, but I loved smashing through traffic at 180mph on the MV Agusta with a mate, then meeting at houses and stuff.

What also annoyed me, how easy it is to roll the car, Forza 4 you rolled the car when you got it seriously wrong or you were doing more than 1 lap of Maple Valley *bd chicane* but was on for 10 minutes, rolled 4 times not even going silly fast.

Damage wise, I would like to see a bit more mechanical damage, not full damage but simulation, you can still feck your car up to where it handles like a dog, and doesn't reach top speed etc, but not completely undriveable as you would need to get it back obviously for repairs, but that would have been cool, a repair shop you can drive to

Forza 4 has dedicated modes just for drifting competition......

And how can you not love drifting? It's so much fun!

You can turn the music off if you don't like it.

I might have turned that off possibly, I don't mind drifting, seems mostly pointless to me, but the flashing up stars on screen tellingy ou how many points you have earned is a load of baws

But why are people comparing a brand new game, against a 3 year old demo? Or however old F4 is? What relevance does the F4 demo have to Horizon, apart from Turn 10 studios?

I preferred the FM4 demo to this. Don't mind the music, the flashy graphics all the time, it's just the handling I do not like. Doesn't feel fun to me at all.

Horses for courses and all that though smile If it helps Turn 10 and Playground produce more car games in the future, I wish it all the best!
