Should I buy this for Xbox One S or PS4? Any big differences? I'm sure they're pretty negligible, if any.

I'm very tempted to upgrade my TV and buy a One X, but think it might be a tad extravagant! Not ruling it out yet though, but would have to convince the wife... hehe

The info given with the game is laughable.
Pages 8-25 of the guide (thanks to the poster who shared it) would have been helpful as a guide or single help doc in game.
Yeah, that was me
I've just downloaded the guide, wasn't going to use one as I like discovering events and things myself but I am interested in the tips and tricks for controls and menus etc.

Are there any pages of the guide I shouldn't look at that will spoil parts of the game for me?
No problem, the ones that are listed in the index covering "missions"
Pages 28-122

Would she be able to spot the difference if you take the 'what are you talking about'/'it's always looked like that' approach ?

Good to know, thanks. I prefer the Xbox controller anyway.

The game is pretty much a tutorial until the end of chapter 2. Certainly I'd be powering through until you move off of the mountain and unlock the camp.

It picks up a little, and can kind of be played at as slow or fast a pace as you like, but it's never going to be outright carnage and fast paced action like GTA.

You get faster horses and fast/travel to help you get about, but the game is all about exploration and the more you take your time and explore the more you'll find all the easter eggs and golden nuggets its got to offer.

I felt similar when I first started but now the slower pace is what makes it enjoyable, sometimes I'll just jump on for half hour and go do some fishing or hunting, or explore areas I've not been to looking for gang hideouts or treasure.

Read somewhere earlier that a guy had finished ("100%") the game in 29hrs.

That was just the story, no side missions or cocking about.

Not got the game yet, thinking it'll make a nice Xmas present from the other half. Shame as I've got a few days off in November with nothing to do.... Hmmmm....

general consensus seems to be that the best chapter to kick back and focus on side missions and random encounters is Chapter 3 and 4 because you have everything unlocked.

I'm in 3 and have decided to do a lot more of the hunting and crafting, as well as exploring the map and finding some gang hideouts.

This isn't really a spoiler but I've seen some people getting precious on here so here's a description of an encounter that's nothing to do with the story, is pretty remote and unless you stumble across it by accident then you're not going to experience it:

Had a really interesting interaction when robbing a cabin near Wallace Station. There's a little old woman in there who just talks st to you while you rob the house (including a nice semi shotgun in the shaft dug into the ground). As I'm leaving she threatens me that her sons are going to kill me (they're some sort of gang), throws something at me, runs outside, jumps on her donkey and starts gunning it. I shoot her down because I like the look of that donkey.

Roll on a few game days and I was back in the area hunting and went past it and four men come out shooting. Kill them all and see that there's a grave for their mother next to the cabin.

There are still a few things that are locked to chapter 6 annoyingly though

oh and after I got the rare gun I set that old hag on fire, and burned her house down

As you do.

Have you been back there to see if her sons have buried her/rebuilt the house?

I've been watching my wife play this, we usually play together, take turns etc but I can't seem to get my head around the controls and she shouts at me when people start shooting at us and I can't get my gun out fast enough laugh

I can't be the only person who finds the controls clunky?

It's quite funny watching her play though, somehow she always manages to hit things at full speed on the horse, rocks, trees, carriages, other horses, she's hit them all! And when she's not doing that she's shooting any kind of animal that moves, but so poorly that they are all worthless when she's done with them.

She probably wouldn't actually! But getting the TV in might be problematic. Maybe the next time she's away for a few days hehe

If you have to justify everything then just turn the colour funny on your existing TV. then tell her it's broken so you buy a new one

That might be more effective, but is it more fun ?

The closest I've seen is the lady helping you bathe although it seems to go no further than her literally helping you bathe rolleyes

There is also coffee, which you can make hot at the campsite.
