KSP is still alive and well and producing bonkers craft.

Still playing this game, though looking at the lack of posts recently it would appear not many others are.
Just made a cinematic style video, my first ever, to try and encapsulate what KSP is all about in just a few minutes. Thought I'd post a link here on the off chance that anyone else might be remotely interested.

What is the actual idea of this game? Can you build anything from the start or do you have to build credits or anything?
2 modes - one where you can build anything from the start, the second is a career mode where you have to do certain tasks to get credits and research points to unlock more parts that allow you do to more tasks, etc.Don't think there's an actual idea for the game, you have parts to build a spaceship from and you have a solar system to explore, it's up to you what you do with it
There was free demo on their website to try it out (currently says 'under maintenace'), think it just has the 'Earth' and the moon from a few versions ago to give you an idea of what it's like to play. The demo is probably drifting about the internet somewhere to try!
Got back into a few weeks ago after a gap of a year or so. its a fun game.
Just trying to do better than crash into the mun but the joy of doing that was great. No mods as like the leading challenges and in career mode. its cold outside there's no kind of atmosphere......😎🚀

I would enjoy it more with a dedicated controller (meaty toggle switches, twiddly knobs, and wiggly joysticks) for. I've recently bought an arduino so it might be a fun project to try and turn that into a controller...
I think someone else was talking about going that route as well, and demonstrated a number of different displays that were showing things like speed and altitude. Not sure how far they got with it, and for the life of me I can't remember where I saw it, but it was very interesting. My best guess is that it was probably on the Kerbal forum if you fancy trying to find it.I think there's a few loonies on the KSP forum that have built controllers.

For a new player I'd recommend career mode, as it means you start with a very limited set of components, and do contracts to earn money and gather science to unlock more parts. If you start in sandbox you've got all the components straight away and no idea how to use any of them.Ok. Who remembers a puppet show from the '60s called Fireball XL5? Not many, I imagine. For those who don't know it, it was made by the same people that later went on to give us Thunderbirds.
A few videos can be found on Youtube; this is the opening sequence
Anyway, enough preamble. I thought I would recreate Fireball XL5 in KSP, and feel I have made a reasonable stab at it. Fireball Junior is detachable as per the 'real' XL5, and both parts are capable of atmospheric flight independently. The only negative is that for me to get the balance right in order to achieve this, fuel is distributed in specific places and is quite limited, which means that infinite propellant needs to be enabled to make this craft viable for all but the shortest flights.
