It is looking like a "wait till its a tenner on Ebay" deal then.rolleyes

I don't particularly *want* oversteer, certainly not daft NFS levels of it. I just cannot stand high powered RWD cars ploughing straight on when power is applied mid corner when such behaviour would not exist in reality.

I was hoping it would be an improvement on Prologue.
I never found this to happen in Prologue anyway - not unless I went flying into the corner too fast, or was using racing tyres on lower powered cars. Perhaps you should turn the driving aids off, turn the handling to 'Professional' and your steering wheel config to 'Simulation'.

The underlying sentiment appears to be that it is better with a wheel. I don't have a wheel and am not likely to get one as I don't want to deal with a racing frame or setting up a chair and table every time I play as PS3 is in the main lounge etc. This is in addition to the price of a good wheel itself.

I am not writing off the game completely, just not going to rush out and pay full price for it if it will wind up getting left in the box much like Prologue is now.

Deffo.

G25 or similar you won't use anywhere else, a PS3, and GT5, is a good £340 or so?! Bit more maybe?

On the pad it really isn't that nice to be honest. It's ok I guess... I dunno, once you've used a good wheel on a good game then anything else feels totally naff.

I have a wheel already though, so the PS3 + GT5 cost wasn't so high, and they are always worth a good chunk to sell on too.

Firstly I am NOT a Forza Fan boy, however, turned on the Xbox last night to race a mate of FM3 and its so much more fun!

I was driving bog standard cars, that handle, (not overly grippy, but about right), kissing apex's and gently drifting out to the curbs, it was ace.

The sounds are better, the graphics are worse but to be fair not as bad as i thought they would look - im honestly thoroughly disappointed in GT5 :-(

Thing that is bugging me is the Top Gear Track isn't available on Time Trial or Practice mode!
I managed to unlock it for arcade mode and some other bits. I think it was by winning the painfully slow Top Gear VW Camper Van Special Event race.
How did you WIN the VW race?
It seems impossible to get much beyond 7th as they are so slow driving in a defensive line and just barge you off the racing line if you dare get up the inside of them...or you get disqualified for touching a cone or bumping one of them (I note they don't though!)
Guess you've probably done it yourself now, but I found you can get away with some er, mildly aggressive BTCC-style manoeuvres on key points, but mostly I did it by repeatedly slogging through the menus to restart a lot... ranting and swearing helps.

If you've worked out how to keep the Elise on the track in the 2nd race, let me know. I can't get it to brake at all without slipping into crazy angles.

Yea, I did the camper van thing by going for any gap at the slow corners. It was actually pretty easy once the fear had gone!

The Elise seems to respond better by coming off the accelerator for a split second before any brake input. Expect the car to start oversteering, and catch it immediately but gently.
Ridiculous physics once again though. If Elises drove that bad, there'd not be one Elise driver alive today!

I dug out my old PS2 and GT4 yesterday, along with my Speedseat and Logitech Driving Force Pro. I have been seriously considering buying a PS3 so I can get GT5, and thought this would fire up some enthusiasm. I had a play for a while, and got onto Grand Valley with a BMW M5 with the traction control turned off. In second gear in the middle of a slow corner, you can stamp the accelerator down and feel barely a twitch. Does the new game have this kind of characteristic? If you cant get a M5 to break traction like that, whats the point? I am going to try my wheel on my friends PS3 soon, but he is away for a week. Any good feedback welcomed :-)

It's a marked improvement, even with a pad you can almost feel the level of grip\slip on each car and bar a few cars which behave a bit oddly, 99% of the cars are spot on and yes you can oversteer almost at will. I've not tried an M5 yet but the M3 I bought can be slidier than a slidey thing if you feel so inclined to provoke it with a healthy dose of throttle mid corner (which I usually do).

Handling is vastly improved from GT4. Yes, you can induce power-oversteer very easily when you want to.

RE: the Elise, I found that left-foot braking and staying on the accellerator worked nicely for keeping the car in-balance.

Thanks chaps, at least that part of the game seems to be more realistic. The feel through a force feedback wheel is quite good when its done well, which I remembered yesterday playing GT4, except for the immense traction every RWD car seems to have. I look forward to trying it out soon, see if I can do some Top/Fifth Gear style hooning.

If I had seen the 'Dab of oppo' thread before, I would have seen that power sliding etc is indeed possible in GT5!!

TBH it depends which tyres you use. If you stick to 'comfort' (road) tyres the handling feels far more realistic than 'sports' (trackday) or 'racing' (slicks). Although Sports are probably better for higher powered road cars like the F40 and Zonda!! wink
