Oh bugger - 360 death!
Discussion
Last night the 360 kept freezing. I thought I'd fire it up again tonight to see if it was something I'd been doing ir whether it was a new download (Worms) that was causing the issue.
Still no joy so I read through and actioned the knowledge base document (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/90758 But still no joy. I called the support line who asked me to completely boot it without the hard drive attached (something I hadn't done before). Result - 3 red lights. Bollocks.
So they will courier it back and I'll get a fixed / new replacement within 15 days. Good job it was before Forza 2 came out!
I guess this will be a good opportunity to go to the gym more or work later!

Sorry to hear that, you are not alone though of course!
Just read another post about a guy on his fourth machine now.
I also heard that many people get back refurb machines and not new ones.
Not sure if that concerns you or not or if that is the case with everyone however.
Did they tell you what they thought the fault was out of interest?
It seems most people never do find out exactly what is failing or why.
You just normaly get all the fanboys telling you it was your fault and
was heat related etc

No they didn't.
When I said to the woman "So you want me to take out the hard drive and then boot it up" she said "Yes of course"
"Right" said I..."Ah"
"Ah?"
"Yes - um, I've got 3 red lights now"
"Huh, erm, and your power supply?"
"Green light"
"Ah"
Me - "Hmm"
Her - "Hmmm, Ok sir, well what we'll do is arrange a collection and you'll get a replacement or repaired console back in 15 days"
...
I was aware of the heat issues and am also aware that I'm far from the only sufferer of this. I have it well vented and away from the other equipment, other than last night I've not had any issues with it. I was looking forward to playing Worms too - and I've still not used my wireless headset either!
Ah well, at least it was sub a year old and they didn't even begin to quibble - justa straight swap out, hopefully they;ve got to the bottom of the issue by now - maybe I'll even get one of those nice new quiet ones!?!

You can get an error code from the 360, even if nothing shows on screen - www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/Xbox-360-error-codes.htm .
Might be the 0102(IIRC) code which people in the US are solving with the use of heat guns.
I'm on to my 3rd 360 BTW - the second was swapped out outside of warranty FOC.

I’m on my 3rd one. First one went bang, the replacement was a refurbished one which also broke down during the first hour of play. Third one was new thank god, so far it has been alright. Bastards wiped all the data from my hard disk though.
My brothers Xbox has however just packed in 1 month after the warranty expired, Microsoft have quoted him £120 to fix it. Absolute piss take considering it is such a common problem.

They specifically told me not to include my hard drive with the unit?
Phil
When my first one went, about 6 months after initial release, I was instructed to include the HDD & MS would try their best not to scrub it. Of course the replacement came back with all my save games missing
