Calling all GTLers
Discussion
A while ago, there was a mention of us all meeting up somewhere for a series of races and a bit of a social. Getting a hall organised with broadband, sturdy tables to mount steering wheels, places to stay and so on proved to be too big a job.
Instead, how about a get-together somewhere for a shot at karting? Let me know who's interested and I'll try to find somewhere central and an idea of the prices.
Personally I like the idea of getting 2 teams together to compete against each other; that way those with karting experience don't win everything and the lardy ones (me) have a chance at glory too!

I make that 10 confirmed or seriously interested and 1 maybe (c'mon FWD...)
I think that we'll need a minimum of 12 to book somewhere exclusively for a session although a lot of the places I've seen prefer more than that (corporate hospitality = $$$). There are a couple of regulars who haven't posted yet so hopefully the numbers will go up.

Whilton Mill are probably out of the running now. I asking them for something slightly different to the offerings on their website and got a brochure from them (and a catering menu too). It's apparent they're after corporate money as they're really looking for much larger groups, and it's not cheap either.
Daytona at Milton Keynes is looking promising though. They have a a 90 minute endurance for small teams (2-4 people) but again it's quite pricey (£170/team). So if people are willing to pay more they can form a smaller group and get more track time
If you want more track time for less money the only option seems to be to go for a practice session but racing is usually forbidden... there's also nothing to stop you hanging around for a practice before/after the main event.
As for when we do this, I would suggest one Saturday in August.
Comments?

I've just had a chat with Daytona in Milton Keynes. It looks promising.
Their Daytona 90 is a 90-minute session for teams of 2-4 people, with a 20 minutes practice session. It's an open event, so we would not be the only team there (they cater for up to 30 teams).
Price is £170 per team. If you're short of cash, you can go for a larger team but you get less track time.
The date/time would be 2pm on a Saturday in August (5th, 12th, 19th). Payment has to be made in advance. I would be happy to collect the money and make a lump sum payment to Daytona.
How does this fit with everyone?

Thanks to another suggestion from Dave, I've called GPKarting in Northampton.
They cater for smaller groups like ours with up to 10 karts on track at once, and several flexible formats. If only 10 people want to go, then we can all be racing simultaneously but if we get more it can be split into small teams.
They have a 75 lap endurance, but can split this to a 40 lap race followed by a 35 lap race (with reverse grid order). Sounds good. Cost would be £40-£50 each. (40 laps is around 20+ minutes).

p.s. They also said that some of the corners are quite slippy
