* * * FEBRUARY COMPETITION THREAD * * *
Discussion
Well thinking cap's been on for all of 10 minutes, been through the archives and I can't see any mention of this. As with other competitions I wanted it to be suitably vague with a large enough scope for everyone to have a go at.
So this months topic is.....
---- POWER ----
Please interpret this as you will.
As always I'll start the official thread later this month, probably the 18th, which will be a one post per person as usual, closing entries for that by midnight 28th Feb.
Good luck everyone and it's a short month so get posting

Nice one Giles! Congrats on winning the January competition, your photo was excellent.
Power? Hmm... Anyone having any track days in February? I don't think any of my car pics from the old camera are really up to scratch, I need to take some new ones. Any excuse for a play with the new toy.
I love that pic, Brian! How did you do it?

Thanks guys. Errr... in what respect? A bit of cloning to get rid of rubbish in the water and found something in the menus that made it all a bit bluer. Just driving along and it was accros the bay from me. Took the photo to see if something could come of it.
Origional looked like this but bigger!:
I can remember you posting that earlier on. Great shot mate. Think I must have done something with it as its on my photobox bit!?! (i have a poor memory)
Only thing I would say is, it would have been great to have walked forward into the gunk a bit to get a "zoomed" shot similar to that of the crop above. But, as it is, the crop version acheives the same results.
Lovely!

Not good enough for the compo as it'll be a long job to get rid of the viewing railings but I thought with Power being the topic you can't get much more power than a glacier.
Briksdal Glacier, Norway, 2005 (800px doesn't do it justice) had a glut of photos and picked this one.

Yes, I put up a thread about it where a few people did an editing job on it. GetCarter being most helpful.
I was wearing a suit. Mud and suit, not good .
4WDrift, where oh where is that? Is it all solid ice, I thought it was just water for a second. I gotta get my a$$ there, it's incredible. Great pic too.

The centre top is all ice, it's actually quite blue (very cold) in places, people can walk up it (photo below - link to bigger pic so you can see the small people the river in the foreground isn't connected with it but I thought it made a nice composition.

UKbob said:AFAIK, the answers to your questions are no and yes. I think the rules used to be that the entries had to be taken in the month of the competition but I believe that was relaxed a while back. As to who can enter, I guess that, as a competition held on PH, only PHers would enter anyway. After all, don't you have to be a registered PHer to post? And, of course, it needs to be a photo you've actually taken...
What are the rules - do the pics need to be shot in the month of the competition, and is this a PHer only comp?
If I'm talking total waffle, then maybe someone will correct me, but this is how I've always understood it.
HTH!
