Macro Photo thread
Discussion
I managed to find a Canon ef-s 60mm macro lens for a bargain price so couldn't say no. It arrived today and having spent a couple of days reading up on how to use it I ventured out into the garden. It really is a very different way to photograph and extremely tricky. I'm still struggling to get to grips with the hows and whats but managed to get a couple of reasonable shots.
The only technique I managed to get any success with was by using live view (the only time I've ever found a use for it) and manually focussing. I had to use the in built flash as nothing was really working with what ambient light there was. Any advice on how to move on would be really appreciated.
Both pics have been cropped and slightly tweaked.

If the leak is correct, then there will be a 100m f2.8 IS L lens introduced by Canon shortly, along with the 7D

No, Macro is regarded as having an image that is 1:1 ratio (lifesize) or better such as 4hero and Dr Mad who are getting 5:1 ratio with the MP65e Canon lens.
These are with my Tamron 90 macro which is 1:1 plus on some I have also used three Kenko extension tubes and some cropping and I'm still miles away from some of the excellent macros on here!

Cracking shots there. I have one just like that on my balcony. Huge it is, i think it is up the duff or something as it is getting bigger by the day it seems. Not quite as sharp as your efforts though. These are with my Tamron 90 macro which is 1:1 plus on some I have also used three Kenko extension tubes and some cropping and I'm still miles away from some of the excellent macros on here!

meant to say, all shot around 4:1 to 5:1 (hand held)
Probably been asked before but do you use a ringflash or something like Canons Twin Lite? Just starting to get a bit more in to macro after seeing your piccies. Some more fantastic shots. Spiders seem so much more interesting now rather than just wanting to squash them!14-7 said:
