I wouldn't normally post in this thread but someone told me this self-portrait looked quite good so I thought I'd post it here (it's also in the Movember thread, hence the dodgy mo)
Any critique welcome (ignore the noise, I think that's mostly caused by the compression), it was intended as a quick snap but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

Other than the noise and the Mo looks good!

A shot I took on Saturday, tried a new style of processing. C&C gladly received.

I may have posted this. It was my first ever shot with the new "portrait lens" (45mm 1:1.8) for my Olympus PEN. I use it more for detail and bokeh type things, but this came out really well for a snapshot, and the lens looks like having some really good potential, so I'm going to start exploring the world of taking pictures of people!
I have since learned that this lens' optimum sharpness is found around f4, so this shot at wide open (I think) leaves Ed's face not quite as sharp and detailed as it should be. But this is straight from the camera, so I'm sure I could do some fixing.
ETA: Sadly, for some reason showing very poor resolution on PH...tried changing the display size from flickr, but to no avail.

The highlights are a little blown on the left side of her face. Did you shoot RAW?
Hi Robbie, was shot in raw. Probably my fault for blown highlights playing around in lightroom, I liked the contrast but probably overdid it. Harry Flashman said:

Impressed with that resolution inspite of what you're saying. Hi all,
My first contribution to the thread, lovely images on here.
I purchased a Canon EX430II speedlite recently.
While trying out different settings and seeing what difference bouncing the flash of various surfaces made I captured this photograph of my father which I was quite pleased with.
I've still got to do some processing to it.
C+C welcome
