Try getting a bit closer to the water next time so that the waves start to tower above you to get some impact - but don't get swept away with the idea !!
Yea! Cheers Mate!
Having just returned and got out of my wet clothes. I decided to get a little closer, Just downloading the pictures now!
Can I ask a favour then, seeing all the skills on show here. I'm serious... bloody impressed with the pictures.
I took what I think was a pretty tasty picture yesterday of my Tuscan outside a manor house. The format is Canon Raw .crw. The sky is pretty bleached out, but I like the look of the picture. If you think its pants, can you suggest why, so I can try again.
Not sure what to do with it, any ideas?
If anybody wants to have a go at editing it, the RAW file is here: (6,592Kb)
www.sleepy-fish.com/images/MyTuscan/CRW_1616.CRW and .thm (10Kb)

And a big jpeg is here: (2,701Kb)

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Luca, the problem is that the sky is much brighter than the rest of the image. You can expose for the dark bit or the light bit, but not both. I haven't experimented with your pic but I fear that much of the sky detail is lost.
If you really want both, how about taking the pic twice, once as before to expose the car and house, and then crank it up a few stops to get the sky right? (It might be easier to point the camera up 30 degrees towards the sky, half-depress the shutter release which should lock exposure, then re-frame). Then you can put the two images together in PS or similar.

Luca, I tried a similar thing when we were visiting Lille last year, we came across one of those typically French roads and thought 'Ah! Sprint Cover.' (I'm guessing this is what you were aiming for?)
I think we both fell for the same problem, not close enough to the car, too much ground in front of it. Also for me there is a bit too much sky and the Range Rover(?) in the left seems to distract the eye a little.*
*Views of a complete Newbie only. Best wait for Getcarter to cast his expert eye over it.
Have a look at mine, you may be able to see what I mean. Car too far back and not big enough in the shot:-

Luca, pic is good but there seems to be some kind of depth problem. Its almost as if the car has been cut and pasted infront of the house.
Im no expert critic so forgive my witterings!
I think that's because he used a flash to fill in the car, but then of course you get the detail of the car but lose the sky.
Hmmm not *too* much to work with there. Forground is (as has been said) a bit dark and lacks depth)
For what it's worth... added contrast, made B&W added gradated sky (which looks crap when resized thus), added fake sun, got rid of Rover (always a good call ), resized, sharpened, changed number plate.
Took about 3 mins... People in the biz could make a MUCH better effort (but I gotta go work).

I love it!
Have taken on board all that's been said and suggested...apart from the go back and take it again .
Thanks for your input everyone. Very useful, and makes me think a little more for future pics.
Suggestion Why not have a pic each day, with constructive criticism, and any changes people could use to improve it? Just a thought.
Thanks Steve....like it very, very much
